    cant find a mobo :(

hi there, im making a new build.

i wanted a motherboard to take my Q6600 and DDR3 ram at 1600mhz!

there are very few boards that can handle that ram, so what are my best options?

ive lost touch with current computer technologies, so if u cud inform...
what chipset shud i go for, theres LOADS avail in 775 now, wats diff between them?
(im going for an ATI card, so want crossfire over SLi....i guess that rules out any nvidea chipsets)
((...is the Nforce still around, i membr nforce3 , wat is it now?? nforce8? :S lol))

EDIT: GOING FOR NVIDIA CARD NOW! NOT ATI! WUD PREFERE SLI COMPLIENT BOARD, BT PROBS NEVR GONA USE IT, SO NOT THAT IMPORTANT!

so wat cud i hav? only 1 i cud find is asus P5Q3 deluxe (which has wifi and linux built in! :S!! stuff i dont need and dont reli want to pay for!)

    thanx in advance! ;D

Re: cant find a mobo :(

For Crossfire on Intel X48 is currently the best chipset & afaik it supports DDR3 1600.
    How about http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/mothe...&fMTYPE=LGA775 ?

@ hsncool have you considered this badboy http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=827890

Abit pricey but imo worth the wonga i actually had the chance to see it in action at scan when foxconn were doing a promo launch of there new destroyer motherboard and its a GPU jaw dropper
so if moneys no problem its a no brainer! Good luck with your new build.

All new Asus mobos come with Splashtop Linux (you just have to install it from the dvd with drivers), and it doesn't cost extra. What it does is allows you to boot into an OS in less than 10 seconds to get some essential stuff like internet and skype. Good for when you're about to leave for work but simply must check that gmail account

If your bothered about the price of a board, why are you bothering with DDR3? It holds little real value over DDR2 unless you a complete speed freak, but then your paying through the nose for it.

Re: cant find a mobo :(

@ victorE, thats wayyyy tooo expensive!! the £150ish asus 1 i quoted was already stretching the budget

@crevan, if u are to install this software to ur hdd, ur point: fair enuff! if its a seperate bootable part of memory on the MOBO, its a waste of muney for me to buy a mobo with it.....

@richieuk i already have 2x1GB DDR3 1600MHZ ram which is why its more worthwhile me gettin ddr3... not only is it faster, bt i can use ram i have spare AND dont need to buy more ddr2 ram...therefore, cheaper for me!

    any more suggestions anyone??

    thanx

Not true, they have always made reliable and very overclockable boards since the early Athlon XP days anyway (4-5 years ago)

actually they do, SCAN's info in their listings is wrong.
You aren't going to find a mobo with DDR3 1600 support for less than ~£150.

    how about this MSI board?

also, reli dumb qestion here, bt if i hav a Q6600 which runs at fsb of 1066mhz, if im NOT overclocking, can i still run ddr3 at 1600mhz, or wud i hav to overclock the q6600 to fsb of 1600mhz to take full advantage of ddr3 1600mhz ram? :S

i kno it appears like im talking to myself here, but im now going for a nVidia card, if that makes any difference to the chipset....

there is official support & then there is what they can actually do - e.g. no abit 939 or AM2/AM2+ mobo officially supports Opterons but they will run them just fine.

& if you are going to run a single gfx card then what chipset it runs on makes no difference, if you want to run SLI however then atm you will have to run an nVidia chipset (790i for DDR3, even dearer than X48).
