    Will these parts work together?

I'd like to know if everything is compatabile and if not, a reasonable swap for around the same price. My budget is around £900 but I'm willing to work with that. Will be used mainly for gaming but also for watching films and listening to a bit of music. Thanks in advance for any help

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - £96.35
    Corsair 4GB PC2-6400 C5 XMS2 - £49.95
    Sony DRU-19OS DVD Drive - £14.19
    aTI Radeon HD 4870 - £149.85
    Coolermaster Cosmos S 1000 - £131.91
    ABIT IP35 Pro - £76.75
    Western Digital WD6400AAKS 640GB Hard Drive - £41.69
    Asus MK221H 22" Monitor - £174.95
Corsair 520W HX Series Modular PSU - £55.62

    Total: £904.63

PS: I already have a mouse, keyboard & OS

Re: Will these parts work together?

I wouldn't get that PSU or mobo but yes it will. There are cheaper and or better alternatives.

Corsair 520W HX and P35/P45 based motherboards.

And 520W will be enough right?

Re: Will these parts work together?

Sorry was in a bit of a rush before.

520W is plenty as long as it's coming from a good quality unit like the corsair (seasonic). You could get more, a 650W TX corsair but that is non modular. The coolermaster isn't terrible it's just that you can do better.

Also the 640GB Western Digital AAKS is a superior drive for about £5 more.

What are you looking for out of the motherboard exactly?

I would be looking at this sort of thing

Re: Will these parts work together?

Thanks for the help so far, from the motherboard I'd be looking for some overclocking capability for the Q6600, enough PCI slots for future upgrades like sound cards, tv cards etc. A good life on it, easy to use bios,

Re: Will these parts work together?

Well the Abit certainly has a great overclocking bios and other features such as a CMOS reset switch and an LED fault code so you know what's wrong if an overclock fails.

It will overclock far beyond what a Q6600 can handle with air cooling (probably water too), and has a lot of slots, wether they are enough for you I don't know.

Re: Will these parts work together?

Looks good to me. If you want to keep samsung drives then you could get the 640GB spinpoint. There is a fairly significant perfomance advantage due to them being based on 320GB platters

Are you looking at getting an aftermarket HSF?

Re: Will these parts work together?

Okay I've swapped the Samsung for the WD 640GB... and yeah I've already got a HSF in mind, but won't be buying it with the main build

Re: Will these parts work together?

Well that is fundamentally what I would build. Hopefully others will come along and give their opinions too lol

The changes I would actually make are getting a cheaper case, it's a nice case for sure but you can get them to do the job for a bit less

Re: Will these parts work together?

Lol yeah they are a very subjective part of system building. I wan't even going to mention it but figured it might be worth it, just in case

You could get a cheaper 22" monitor from Neovo for £130, HDCP compatible and decent specification too. Also, theres a P5Q Pro board from Asus thats newer technology and can handle all but the absolute highest overclocks. Same price too.
