I have a budget of £500.
I want to build a PC for gaming, with a nice case, decent psu etc. NO monitor needed.
I've heard that e8300 processors are better for gaming than quad core...
what other decent components should I look into?
thanks

How about this
Antec 300 (possibly Coolermaster CM-690) ~£35 (£60)
Corsair 450W VX ~£45
Intel E7200 +Xigmatec Tower ~£95
4GB PC6400 ~£50
DFI P35 or Asus P5Q PRO, Abit IP-35 PRO if you can get one. ~£80
640GB Western Digital AAKS ~£50
Samsung Optical ~£15
ATi HD4850 ~£120 (sapphire dual slot).
£490. I'd personally get the CM-690 for a total of £515 though. Or you could use that money to get the cosair 520W HX.
That will run cool, quiet and will overclock well over 3.5Ghz probably.
- For a clean tidy case, the HX520w will cost you £20 more, but not essential.
- The Antec 300 is great for gaming. There are a couple of extras you can buy to make it even better
------------------(2 or 3 Xigmatek 120mm fans *some of the best around*, Sharkoon Vibe III Fixer to mount HD in 5" slot to keep airflow unobstructed etc.. all £5 a pop)
- The processor, harddrive, disk drive and heat sink sound perfect. As does the ram as long as its branded.
- P5Q Pro is newer architechture, for the same price. Little touches like PCI-E 2.0 make it more futureproof
- The graphics card is a MUST, from Ebuyer £120 delivered.
