Creating a hidden partition on an external drive

I want to split a 250GB 2.5" HDD into 2 partitions, i want 1 partition accessible easily on any computer

The other partition i want some sort of password entry or other sort of tricky entry, but i dont need encryption, its not that important, i'd rather it was just hidden and still quick to access.

Is that possible?


*the problem i have with truecrypt etc is that it takes ages to access the files and i dont need that kind of security. Just a simple password access into the partition would be great.

I know windows can split a drive into 2 partitions but then how do you block access to one of them?

I've done this in the past by using a partition tool to change the partition type to hidden,
that doesn't give you password protection though.

I know its encryption but its someting i use to hide a partition
the partition does not have a drive letter in windows
you load the freeotfe and mount the partition ( requires password )
with out freeotfe it just looks like a partition without a drive letter ( or formatted )

is it quite fast at file access?

I surpose there must me some slowdown but i only use it to store a few files so i never notice
its on a AMD x2 4800

If you format it as NTFS you should be able to put security on it and restrict it to certain users
