Advice needed for my new system!

    Hello,

I requested for some advice on choosing my mouse and keyboard a few days back, and now I am back for the rest of the components. I have already acquired a Q6600, BFG 8800GTS (dual slot cooling), 2*2GB Corsair DDR2 800 memory, 21" Monitor, G5 Logitech Mouse and G11 Logitech Keyboard. I now need to get the rest of the stuffs, and need some advice on what to choose. If I am missing something other than what I have short listed do tell (I can't post Url's yet- so sorry for the inconvenience)

    Psu- scanWebProductId=618002 Seasonic 500 Or, scanWebProductId=664337 Corsair 550VX

    Motherboard- scanWebProductId=636580 Msi P35 Neo2 FR

    Hdd- scanWebProductId=708681 750 GB Samsung HD753LJ Spinpoint F1

    Casing- scanWebProductId=811571 Antec 300 Or, scanWebProductId=541780 Coolermaster 330

Proc cooling- scanWebProductId=707464 Akasa Ak 975 Or, scanWebProductId=282162 Asetek vapochill

I want to end up with a relatively silent, simple looking reliable system(who doesn't want that!!) will oc a bit but not too much. I have already spent a lot and now have to finish my build with a tight budget. So, please help me decide....

Re: Advice needed for my new system!

If you are a on a slightly tight budget, I would probably go a slightly different direction on the components, mainly due to that motherboard being a bit of a lemon.

    Either of these motherboards
    http://scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=615972 or http://scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=787775

    This case and PSU
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145090

    This HDD
    http://scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=798906

And if you can get this cooler on scans today only it will be about £17
    http://scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=700899

Or if you are willing to go for a uATX based system

    This case and PSU
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130946

    With this motherboard
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136366 or http://scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=616586

With this uATX option, you can a fantastically quiet system and it will run very cool as well since the two 120mm fans sit so close together

380W is enough to run that system as well if you are worried about that.

Re: Advice needed for my new system!

    Thanks for the recommendations.

I missed this wd hard disk and looks good in reviews.

Regarding the case I was not happy to spend on something which has no direct influence on the performance of a system but was wondering how the value cases perform in sound-proofing and ventilation. My practical experience with one value case from ebayer is not good, and therefore decided to spend a bit more on a "branded" one. Your recommendations could however help me save some and spend it on the motherboard instead.

I checked the reviews for this particular motherboard, and it perform well. For reference - Anandtech Apart from few ocing capabilities I don't see much difference with the P5KC or Lanparty. Am I missing something??

Btw, I am really not that tight on my budget. It's very easy to get carried away and go for something higher than which was intented to, so I am trying my best to constrain myself. Because I won't be making or upgrading my pc every month, I am happy to spend a few more if that extra spend is justified

Re: Advice needed for my new system!

It's not the reviews that worry me about the MSI it's what I read on the forums about users having problems with them. It's a shame because on the surface it looks like a bargain, but perhaps.. too good to be true.

The Antec combo's are both decent cases and PSU's so don't worry too much about them being cheap stuff you would usually get in these deals.

The cases and PSU's are about £40 a piece if you buy them seperately

Thanks for cautioning on that MSI board. How about GA-EP35-DS3 ?

Considering the combo deals for psu, how about this one?

Btw, what's the difference between ip35 and ip35 express?

Re: Advice needed for my new system!

I perefer the antec combo's but the coolermasters aren't bad either

That motherboard is better than the MSI I think yeah. I'm not gigabytes greatest fan but they are making decent boards at the moment

No idea about the difference.. pretty sure P35 is just p35 whether they are express or not.

How about this Asus P5K? It has one year warranty with almost the same price? Is there many complaints on this board?

You need about 25 posts I think, then it will down by the quote button.

The asus boards are on the today only section of scan to

I am not sure if you are the right person to complain on this, but why isn't the today only price reflected in the regular product page?

It looks like my system will end up very similar to yours then! Same proc, same motherboard, same memory ..

How is the temperature like for your proc. and which cooler and casing are you using?

Re: Advice needed for my new system!

Hmm... As you might have noticed I am still uncertain about the case, and how would you rate your cheap ebuyer value case for noise insulation and ventilation? Using 3 fans, I suspect won't be a silent solution
Do you use overclocked proc. all the time? How hot does it get without any ocing?

Sorry to ask you all these questions. I am really looking forward to my new build and can't resist my excitement.
