To date, no one has been able to prove an above normal failure rate.
Considering the F1s have been out for a while, we would have heard many confirmed cases if there was a serious issue.
good
i thought it was just "hearsay"
All I can say is that my 1TB F1 is working fine, and that my friend's 4 year old Spinpoint is also working great.
I think a lot of people object to Samsung's invasion of this sector and with that you do get certain rumours about reliability. Hitachi drives are still avoided by many since they took over IBM's drive manufacture and its issues with previous generation drives, even though there was no evidence of these issues having been repeated.
All technology will fail at some point, when your particular drive joins that statistic is impossible to say, and if it happened in the first week of ownership you'd be unlucky. The F1 drives have been out there long enough to have proved themselves and survived the first part of the 'bathtub' curve. When they will hit the other end one cannot say.
I say enjoy the performance and value. Don't forget, your thoughts affect the things around you. Don't worry about it breaking and you'll be fine. Don't forget to thank your PC for working well!
I have one in my system and it's _very_ quiet compared to my old WD Raptors and has been 100% reliable. The speed is also as good as, if not better, than my 74GB WD Raptors under Vista 64-bit.
ive had a 500GB f1 for about 4 months now and its fine.
I have four Samsung Spinpoint F1's in a Thecus NAS. No issues to date, very silent, high performance. low-temperature drives.
I've got 4 spinpoints, 2 are F1's. Been 6 months now, so far no trouble. Quiet, speedy and good value. Dont forget to backup, just in case.
Had mine 1tb F1 for almosot half a year as well. no problems whatsoever. when i get round to filling it up will definitely not hesistate buying another one!
