    Re: Which Sub Notebook?

Must admit to being very happy with my 901 linux
The battery life is stupidly long 4.5-5 hours easily

I personally don't have much trouble with the keyboard and much prefur the slightly smaller size and lower weight.
I currently carry it around in an old camera bag, but I'm considering a sewing project to make a belt pouch to replace this.
Heck just out of interest I just tried it in the side pocket of my trousers, it fits although a bit heavy.
The bootup time on the basic Xandros that comes on the linux version gas a boot time of 23 seconds

the wireless N is a bit problematic, takes a while to power up and connect to our network at work. (I've not timed it but I'd say between 30sec-1min)

The touch pad gets a little getting used to, the scrolling and zoom is great, but it took me a bit before I stopped accidently triggering "page back" on firefox

I've done no upgrading to it as yet, no even added an SD card.
Sorry, correction, I "lapped" the shiny area to the right of the touchpad as an experiment to reduce the shinyness and fingureprint attraction.

Correction: The Aspire One is 100g lighter

But the Aspire one is slightly wider - hence it can afford a bigger keyboard.

    Re: Which Sub Notebook?

I've got a week long course coming up next month and was thinking of getting the Samsung NC10. However, I was wondering if anyone would know whether they would be capable of playing games like Civ4 and GalCiv2? Just to pass the time away in the evenings (other than drinking ). I suppose I could just get a normal laptop, but they're just not as... gadgety.

    Re: Which Sub Notebook?

Apart from not having a cd/DVD drive to install it from and have the disc while playing I would think you have a chance of playing CIV4 minimum spec is a P4 1.2GHz the 1.6GHz Atom is probably almost there. GalCiv2 only requires a P3 800MHz so you should be pretty safe there!

Just thinking back to Master of Orion 2 ah them was the days!

    Re: Which Sub Notebook?

It looked technically possible to run those games, just wondering if anyone actually had. Completely forgot about the lack of a DVD drive, but I have just dismantled my Ice Box external hard drive enclosure and found it works with my SATA DVD drive via USB! I can install the games and then use a No-CD crack to run Civ4 (perfectly legal as I own the game I believe; GC2 runs without the CD anyway).

I love it when stuff just works; seems to happen so rarely these days.

    Re: Which Sub Notebook?

Well if the games will run under XP I can see no reason for them not to work on the NC10. And I don't think anybody is going to care that you have used a no-cd crack for playing your game on a system without an optical drive legal or otherwise! But it is probably legal as long as it does not circumvent copy protection other wise it is probably illegal even though you own it. But again nobody is going to care.

    Re: Which Sub Notebook?

The NC-10 looks a great buy, but samsung say it's not avalable yet. Anybody know when it might be?

    Thanks for any help.

    Re: Which Sub Notebook?

You can the white one from CCL now. The others seem to be a week or two away at the moment. I'm personally waiting for the blue one to come in stock somewhere.
