Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
You should be able to go to 400FSB on that board with very little tweaks, i believe people have gotten up to 500FSB, although 24/7 stability at anything above 450 is highly dubious.
Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
always subject to sample variation & supporting components (CPU, cooling, RAM etc.) but over 500fsb with a dual is certainly possible & a bit less with a quad.
Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
Will do 400mhz without changing any settings except the FSB (and make sure the memory divider is set 1:1), I've had mine up to 450mhz but started getting crashes past that. I don't know why, either the CPU or the memory.
Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
I've got mine running stable at about 450 FSB, and the mobo itself run close to 480 no problem (this was testing with the CPU multiplier set to 6 so as to find out the board's max FSB, as well as the CPU's FSB limits). However, when I was actually trying to overclock (using my max multiplier of 8), anything over 450 proved generally unstable (and even 450 forced me to raise voltages higher than I would have liked, but everything seems ok nevertheless).
So I'd say that 450 is likely what you'll top out at, on air at least. Maybe a little higher if you're lucky and got a better CPU.
Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
hello,
Sorry to bring this up again, but I'm having issues with this board's FSB (see my other thread for more info).
At the moment, I can't get above 420MHz, despite increasing the FSB voltage.
What settings are you guys using?
EDIT: If it matters, I am using 4 sticks of RAM.
EDIT 2: I've just found that at 420MHz it will only post , it won't actually boot into windows. Infact, no speed beyond 360Mhz is stable, so it's even worse than I thought.

it does, it will lower the max fsb possible. have you increased the MCH voltage?
Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
Have you tried higher FSB but lower multiplier? May be your CPU that is limiting you rather than the motherboard.
Also if your increasing the FSB you will be pushing the memory harder make sure you have the memory on a 1:1 divider (so if your FSB is 400 your memory is registering at DDR2-800).
Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
hello,
Yep, I have the multiplier set to x7, and the divider to 1:1.
Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
hello,
I've done a few more tests, and I've found that infact 2 sticks of RAM is no different to having 4 sticks. What's going on? :(
Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
Is this with an E6600? Have you not just hit the chip's upper limit? Have you bumped up the voltage any? If so, how much? What CPU cooling are you using?
Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
hello,
I don't think so. I'm using a multiplier or 8 (even tried 7) rather than 9 to keep the CPU speed down, so it does not become a limiting factor. The voltage stays at 1.36V. It's been tested before at 3.2Ghz using this voltage (with the old memory) and it was totally stable.
Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
Which CPU are you looking at? If you don't think your board will be able to manage high FSBs you could always look at the E5200..... I overclocked one last week to 3.813GHz (305 x 12.5) on air......

And they cost sod all! :D
Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
Thanks so much for your advice guys.
Why is it that the motherboard I have does not go any higher than 360, whilst others can reach far higher speeds?
EDIT: Do you think a BIOS update could help?
Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
BIOS updates can always help or they can hinder you wont know unless you try! You can always go back as long as you have a copy of the current BIOS.
Worth a try anyway.
In answer to your other question every motherboard and chipset chip is different but 360 seems a little low. Try a BIOS update and see what happens.
Re: Abit IP-35 pro, max FSB?
hello,
Unfortunetly, I tried an update and everything seems to have backfired. I get the following message at startup:
"CMOS checksum error
Defaults loaded. Press F1 to continue or del to enter setup".
Everything seems fine if I continue, but if I enter the BIOS to reenter my original settings I get the following message:
"DISK BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER."
Oh dear.
I've tried saving over the old profiles with new ones that have the same settings (I've been told the original profiles won't work with a new BIOS) and tried clearing the CMOS many times using both the jumper and external switch. No success yet.
