Locked multipliers?

hello,

On non-extreme edition intel CPU's, I believe the multipliers cannot go above the original value. Why is it that Intel restrict the CPU multipliers like this, but do not do so on EE CPU's? Is it to push customers to pay a few hundred extra pounds for an EE CPU?

Unlocked allows easy overclocking which only stresses the chip and not the mobo. I believe the warranty also allows overclocking. They should be made with higher grade silicon as well so they are as perfect as they are going to get :)

AMD black editions have unlocked multipliers, shame the cpus arent better ocer's

Absolutely. If they did it on the q6600 at £110, nobody would buy the more expensive chips and they'd make pretty much sod all. Those fabs and R&D cost billions, plus they need to pay the shareholders.
