I've had first hand experience of Pioneer (106) and MSI. The Pioneer is great, can be picked up at a good price as the 107 is out now. A friend of mine bought the latest MSI model, around eighty quid, he's had no probs with it so far three months down the line.

if i was you, spv do a 107 ( 8x +/- ) for 99.98 and often do 99p shipping, so quite a good deal compared with what u want

personally i went for a 4 x, NEC, it writes + only, but at 35 quid, u cant go wrong, i got 4x media, but its dodgy with my drive so only writes at 2.4 but none the less im a happy man, im not into making my own films really, but for data backup ts great, ive got a 40gb and a 20gb in my shuttle, its constantly outta space, partitioned many times so i have 6 pop ups saying, low disk space which is annoying, one drive i have 11gb, and exactly 0bytes free , after an hour theyve all gone, ive cleared up my files and ive got 10gb spare, havnt properly tried it, but its a nice drive, similar ones are currently on ebuyer for under 50 quid, but only the - version - seing as im only going to write + media, and in the future ill get a dual dvd writer it doesnt matter to me

I've got the 811S LiteOn DVD burner too and I'm very happy with it. The reason I bought it over similar models was because of it writes CDs at 40x and it's supposed excellence at backing up DVDs/games.

I've heard very good thing about the Pioneer drives though. Some DVD burners can be very picky about what DVDs they can burn (looking through the reviews at ebuyer.com, the Sony DVD burners have great difficulty with most budget blank DVDs), but the Pioneer drives will burn anything you throw at it. The latest model is the A07. Also, there's rumours of a firmwire update for the Pioneer drives which will upgrade them to support dual-layer burning.
