Need some drive caddies

I need a couple of drive caddies, one SATA one PATA. Don't need LCD displays or anything fancy, I'm most concerned about the number of times I can connect/disconnect a drive. Any recommendations?

Hi there, I have used pata caddies for a long time ( the cheap beasties as well ) and have not had any trouble that I could attribute to them as far as jacking the things out and in. I had one caddy rack went faulty and I have had a couple of drives die (maxtors) but I think that is par for the course. You will probabally have to accept that using caddy racks may reduced the drive life as drives are quite delicate . Have a look at the ones in 'scan' or it you want cheap plastic racks , have a look at the ones in ebuyer.

Anyone had any experience with the IcyBox caddies? And is it worth paying extra for a SATA II caddy, or will a SATA II drive work just fine in a normal SATA model?

I've used Akasa and Sumvision. Sumvision, cheap, does the job, not particularly attractive. Akasa, more expensive, does the job, looks better. Both available from Scan.

Yup. They make some of the best, most consistently highly rated enclosures available

There's no such thing as a SATA II specific caddy. A SATA drive, is a SATA drive, is a SATA drive
That is to say... any SATA/SATA II drive, will fit any SATA/SATA II enclosure

I tend to use Span.com's unbranded jobbies. Never had any problems at home or work.

That's what I thought, but IcyBox has caddies with SATA II listed as a feature. Marketing gubbins!
