    Good overclocking board for Q6600?

The motherboard in my main rig (P4 3.2GHz) gave up the ghost today and although I was planning to upgrade within the next month I now need to pick everything up tomorrow!

I live really close to CCL (www.cclonline.co.uk) and so the board needs to be available from them. Spending limit is £50-£70. (I looked at the Asus P5N-E which I recall reading is a good board, but that was quite a while ago.)

I also need RAM - planning on 2gb for now (unless the motherboard comes in closer to £50, then I'll get 4gb) - so recommendations from CCL also appreciated.

I really need the help choosing as the last system I built was a 2800+ Barton (and that was a nine month old chip when I built the rig )

    Cheers!

    These aren't horrible.
    http://www.cclonline.com/product-inf...bb660-g0eay00z

    Slightly lesser version
    http://www.cclonline.com/product-inf...bb67a-g0eay00z

650i boards are OK but can become really quite unstable when overclocking.

If you were to use scan you would get slightly better prices and have different boards like the DFI blood iron available but never mind the P5K is pretty good

    How about this?

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=860259

I have read really excellent reviews of this board recently...£50 sound alright? The fsb goes to 1600 so you shouldn't have too much trouble overclocking it and you have the option of upgrading to ddr3....

Re: Good overclocking board for Q6600?

    Thanks for the input guys.

Hmmm.....Seems I'm a bit limited with the CCL boards. I like the look of the ASRock board at Scan (and the price!). Read a few reviews which seem good.

Looks like the Q6600 is out of stock at Scan so I'll have to give them a ring I think, see when they'll be back in.

On the subject of RAM, has anyone tried any Super Talent before? The 4GB kit looks tempting, but I haven't really heard of them before.

EDIT: Just found this review of the Super Talent http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1095&pageID=3422 so maybe I won't bother with it.

Would 2x 2GB kits of the Corsair TwinX XMS2 http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=255300 be a good choice?

Re: Good overclocking board for Q6600?

Why not get the 2x2GB kit instead and save £5

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=632574

As for the Q6600 you could get it from Aria for £105 (inc Vat + Delivery)
    http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/...roductId=28356

Then you could get this Ram and save a few more £s

Damn, that's a great price! So the Q6600 and RAM is sorted from Aria, which motherboard from Aria?

They have this Asrock board https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/Socket+775+(Intel)/Asrock+4CORE1600TWINS-P35+P35%2FICH9+Socket+775+Motherboard?productId=30794 which is similar to the Asrock mentioned above (which I was going to go for from Scan) http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=860259

Would I be better getting the Scan one?

If it's a better board I don't mind splitting the order over a couple of vendors for the sake of £2 on the total cost!

here, in the supersavers, for £70
    http://scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

Costs a bit more but I certainly wouldn't buy an Asrock board personally.

Re: Good overclocking board for Q6600?

I'm with Mike on the not buying an ASRock board personally and that DFI at £70 is a bargain, you could get a decent P43 for the same money if you fancied it instead.

Or the is the Asus P45 on offer at aria for £70 as well which would keep the order all in one place,

    http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/...roductId=32294

If that is really to much for you to spend on the board then the is a decent Gigabyte P35 board on Aria for ~£56 (inc Vat) which will do you fine as well but the P45 or DFI boards are probably going to have better options available.
