AHAHA!! Sneaky Upgrade!!!
I had a fantastic idea! My brother has an Asus M2N-E motherboard and a 3200+cpu with 1gb of 677mhz ram. I'm going to swap my motherboard processor and ram for his while he is at school! He will never notice!
If I do this it means I can buy another 2gb of ram (can you mix ram of different speeds?), an X2 processor and a HD4850!!!
Do you think he would notice a change in performance? Bearing in mind that he will also be gaining another gb of ram.
Edit: Mine is a 939 3200+, 2gb of 400mhz ddr1 and an Elitegroup RS482-m
Re: AHAHA!! Sneaky Upgrade!!!
I think you need to grow up... Just ask your bro if he doesn't mind exchanging some components
Re: AHAHA!! Sneaky Upgrade!!!

My mate who was 21 stole the components for his sisters new C2D build and swapped it with his AMD machine.. perhaps it's not an age thing *shakes head*
I doubt he would notice though, might even appriciate the extra RAM.

No, but I expect he'll notice the completely different operating system install, especially if you accidentally wipe his documents and settings... :p
Re: AHAHA!! Sneaky Upgrade!!!
that is so evil! :surprised:
can't you just ask to swap the motherboard? and then tell him you can give him an extra stick of RAM?
wheres the helping attitude in human nature?? :(

Woah! Chill out! I was just having a laugh, I'll probably tell him!
He's been bugging me to put vista on his computer, so I may do this in exchange for his parts :D

then he'll want to go back to xp after the part switch :P
Re: AHAHA!! Sneaky Upgrade!!!
Haha, true! He would be using my vista dvd as I bought it and hated it. Its not that it is bad, its just not suitable for my computer I think.
Re: AHAHA!! Sneaky Upgrade!!!
Just overclock your cpu if you want to see a faster machine.
Re: AHAHA!! Sneaky Upgrade!!!
My motherboard will only do 240mhz stable :(

Do you mean the fsb? (i.e. the max it can go to is 240?)
You might have to use a ram divider to compensate.
For example, I 've whacked my cpu fsb to 280 (from 200) and took the ram from 200mhz to 133mhz in the bios, but the ram runs at 188mhz now (as the fsb has increased to 280.) :)
Re: AHAHA!! Sneaky Upgrade!!!
Why not just pop out and rob de bank? :naughty:

Ooh!! Whats the plan?
No, the actual max fsb it will boot at (with ram and multiplier set low, so that it is only overclocking the fsb) is about 245 and it isn't stable. It is a very poor motherboard.
Re: AHAHA!! Sneaky Upgrade!!!
With motherboard, CPU and RAM prices being as cheap as they are currently, if you can afford to buy Vista, then you can certainly save enough money to upgrade your PC.
Even the cheapest components are extremely fast nowadays.
£21 for 2GB DDR2 800
£30 for AMD AM2 4200+ Dual Core
Plus
£34 for GA MA69VM (if you already have a decent PCI-E gfx card)
or
£46 for ABit A-S78H (if you have an AGP/slow video card - the on-board is surprisingly good)
