Sorry to hijack this thread but would a Corsair 520w modular PSU be enough to power a E7200 + 260GTX
    Cheers

That's more than enough and those prices are exVAT but if you add them up and include VAT it's about £400

I have one more question, i'm going to be overclocking the quad so is a cpu cooler essential? If so, could someone please tell me of any good ones, thanks

Re: Best gaming machine for £500?

Depends how much you want to spend really,

Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and a 120mm fan is about as good as it gets but expensive.
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=676579
or Ultima 90 with a 120mm fan cheaper and almost as good (better bang for buck for sure)
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=679602

Xigmatek do a decent cooler for a fair bit less
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=700899

Or the Scythe Mine (or Ninja if you can find one Scan no longer have it)

Re: Best gaming machine for £500?

Well that's just typical ain't it! Already bought it yesterday, lol, got the DFI Lan Party mobo today and i now know why they call it 'Lan Party'! Can't imagine too many boards out there looking sexier than this one, just hope the cooler fits as the space seems a bit small but hopefully it'll be fine.

Have you already bought the Hard drive as the WD640AAKS is only a few quid more on buyer £48, not a big deal if you already have.

Re: Best gaming machine for £500?

Yeah, i recieved it all today

Quick question guys, i've fitted the CPU on and i'm in the process of putting the heatsink and fan on now, the heatsink came with silicone compound to put on the bottom of it, and i'm wondering, should i put some on top of the processor too? Or should the past on the heatsink be enough? Thanks!

Well read the instructions that comes with it. generally you will only want it on one or the other though.

Re: Best gaming machine for £500?

The instructions only say to put it onto the heatsink, but i thought that'd be because it comes seperate from the processor.

Re: Best gaming machine for £500?

Probably not, follow them, that's your best bet.

If it doesn't work all that well you can always buy otehr stuff like Arctic silver 5 or MX-2.

Re: Best gaming machine for £500?

Thanks, the other problem is the heatsink, i can put it on but it simply does not seem solid enough, i've pushed it down, turned the screws (or whatever they are) the right way and when i hold it upright it's fine, but all it takes for it to come off is a simple soft pull, i don't even have to turn the screws the other way before being able to take them off and this has me a bit worried as right underneath it is the sapphire graphics card and if it falls on it some day i'm screwed, does anyone have any suggestions to make the cooler more solid when it comes to being stuck to it's place? Obviously not something like superglue but something that would make it extra secure, thanks.
