    Upgrade Advice

Planning to upgrade my PC this week and had a look on Scan today and just wanted some advice, will mainly use the system for Photoshop work.

    Have my eye on :

    2x - 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), CAS 5-5-5-18

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550

Not sure what mobo to get, want to future proof the system if possible.

It won't be possible. Socket change comes with i7 so you won't go any further on a motherboard you buy now.

Are you going to be overclocking?

    Re: Upgrade Advice

That looks like it will run really quick. Vista 64 I persume, (are you sure that 8gb of ram is not an overkill??)
What's your budget for the Mobo, I have a p5q pro, and it runs very nicely, would recomend it.

    You could go for a X48 chipset, something like this;
    http://scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=876381 but it costs alot.

    Re: Upgrade Advice

Some of my Photoshop files are around 1-2gigs, so not overkill i hope! My Mac with 4gigs barely can handle it! Will be running Vista 64 for the upgrade.

Won't be overclocking and will be planning to spend around £400.

    Re: Upgrade Advice

In that case (140ish memory, 180ish cpu, thats 320ish), i would go for a p5q e at 90ish, would add up to about 410. (all guesses for the prices

    Re: Upgrade Advice

Memory should be around £100 - £110. You don't need to spend more than £55 and don't need any more than PC6400.

Q9550 will be £205 so something like the P5Q-E as suggested will be a nice board. Plenty of features and if you ever did want to overclock a bit, it has plenty of potential for that

    Re: Upgrade Advice

I've got a 8800gt 320mb - which is abit dated now i think with how fast tech is moving!

Was thinking about the 10,000RPM drives for me to save the files faster but they are way too dear!
