My new Biostar TPower I45 / E8600 overclock

    Hi guys

FINALLY the Biostar TPower I45 arrived this week! I've installed an E8600 (Q820A670), 4GB (2x2GB) OCZ DDR2/PC26400C4 HPC RAM and an OCZ Vendetta 2 CPU HSF (120mm). I'm nowhere near done playing with this board/chip, but here's where I'm at so far:

Not one reply? I'd have thought the hardware itself would have got at least one, even if my overclock isn't anything spectacular (yet)

Re: My new Biostar TPower I45 / E8600 overclock

I just looked at the mobo never expected Biostar to make such a good board.

Is this the only motherboard they ve made.

    Good overclock by the way!

    Edit
Is that a 4pin molex on the board near the 1st pci-e 1 x slot

    Damn nice overclock

Been hearing a lot of good things about Biostar, hopefully they will fill the gap that ABit left.

Re: My new Biostar TPower I45 / E8600 overclock

Yeah Biostar have made a few boards to date, but this is the 'big' one. It's a P45 chipset, matching (and beating!) x48 boards in benchmarks but is only selling for P35 prices! £85 I paid btw. The board currently holds (iirc) six out of the ten world overclocking records including a 740+ Mhz FSB and 6+ Ghz on an E8500 Oh and yep, that's a molex at the PCI-e slot - which can be plugged in for extra juice under xfire if you want to.

I'm struggling to get past 4.3Ghz on my clock at the mo I can boot to Vista desktop at 4.5 (450x10, 1.392v vCore, 45-50 degrees C under load) but it fails prime PDQ (about 60 secs). I upped the vCore to 1.45 (under load in Windows) and it lasts about five mins then falls over.

I've had 530+ Mhz FSB with a low multi clock, and the RAM has clocked to over 1100Mhz on an upward divider at low FSB (basically I pushed each component individually to see how far it could go, so I knew what was holding me back on a general CPU overclock later on). Thing is I'm not hitting those Mhz yet at 10x450 and I can't get it stable So it looks like 4.2Ghz is gonna be my 24/7 clock now. I was really hoping for 4.4Ghz - which others seem to have.

This is my 1st clock though, ever (and my 1st build ) so maybe it's just me not doing it right LOL

Me neither. Seems like we got an ASUS killer here
I always wanted angled sata ports on an ASUS board but they always were on motherboards that were incompatible with intel, they'd have 4 angled and the other 2 normal, it would be the board with 2 slots ddr2 and 2 ddr3 crippling high ram upgradeability (4x1gb or 4 x 2gb etc), it'd have the E-ATX or P4 connector in a weird place. Could never get a normal one for the P5K

Looks like my next board will be a Biostar

Very nice overclock hadn't spotted this thread before.

Re: My new Biostar TPower I45 / E8600 overclock

Following on from my last post - here's a screenie from a couple of minutes ago. I'm currently "Windows stable" at 4.5Ghz but I can't prime for long Must...increase...tweakage!!

Any suggestions gratefully received! I know I shouldn't put much more voltage through a 45nm CPU, so I'm thinking any extra tweaks will have to be via the mobo (maybe a lower multi, high FSB?).

Where did you buy it? I know you can buy through amazon/envizage, I dislike the latter, and e-mails/online forms to targetcomponents result in no reply, I also left a visitor message to TargetComp, still heard nothing http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-channe...herboards.html

Yeah I got mine from Envizage. They were very good tbh, though I did have a lot of trouble waiting for stock etc (hardly surprising) and with dodgy City Link issues (not Envizage's fault).

Anyone know where you can get one at a decent price and a well known retailer?
