pc worked without 6pin pci-e connector?

    hi

pc crashed today when i was playing a game, rebooted it and it said the graphics card (7800gtx) wasnt recieving sufficient power and then noticed the graphics card wasn't even plugged in to the PSU via the 6pin connector yet it did not crash once being on 24/7 since may when i moved to this address.

does anyone know the max temperature a 7800gtx should run at?

    thanks

Graphics cards can draw 75W through the motherboard so I would imagine it wasn't until you were playing games that it required more power than that and then fell over. Saying that though my system wont even boot if the card is in but the power isn't plugged in.

Re: pc worked without 6pin pci-e connector?

    thanks for the reply.

I was playing an old game (Soldier of Fortune 2) when it crashed and thats the only game I play and it crashed about 5 minutes after joining a server.

On a different motherboard (DFI Ultra D) this graphics card did not even let the system POST without the power being connected to it but on this motherboard (Gigabyte P965 DS3) it seemed to work without crashing 24/7 since May without trouble until today.
