Is it only the new 2500+'s that can't be unlocked? I've got a mate offereing to sell me his 4 week old barton 2800+ , will i be able to unlock this in a shuttle sn45g???

Even when locked, you can still overclock the FSB on the Bartons.

Yes, but i doubt my locked barton will go up to 200fsb, or will it ???
As long as your motherboard and RAM can keep up (and the heatsink and fan keep it cool enough), you should be able to get most 2500+ Bartons to 3200+ speeds.

hmmm, thats good to hear, i got the impression that all post week 40 cpu's were rubbish clockers
No, they are just multiplier locked (except the mobile versions).
My "locked" 2500 is doing 203 as I write this and as far as I can see on the boards that is not necessarily a very good o/c for one of these ( perhaps that'll teach me for not spending enough on a psu and ram!)
as far as wether th 2800 is locked or not, either is a possibility tho at 4 weeks old my guess is that locked is more likely
