    57% and 44% better in dual and single configs respectively? Ye gods, that's a performance hike and a bit...

    Lots of people buy ProLiants; it's got to be tempting - and I have to say that although I've used Dell up until now, if they don't get their backsides in gear and get some AMD64 kit out of the door, that's quite likely to change.

    Its the price to performance input that the mid range server market needed.
    Couple of those set to clustering and with the RAM that those puppies can handle... it will make a damm fast web server setup and from that I mean static, dymanic and hosting the db's ona couple of boxes!

    Hurrah for iAMD64!!!

    Did they test the Xeon with only 2Gb of RAM, but the Opteron with 4Gb?

    In Appendix A it has...

    Amount of RAM:
    Xeon - 2048Mb PC2100
    Opteron - 2048Mb PC2700, 2048Mb PC2100

    Or did they try 2 memory configurations in the Opteron (if so, which were the results based on?).

    Interesting read though, as we use shedloads of Proliants here and SQL Server can make even our dual Xeon servers crawl at times...

    I think they tried 2 memory configs - the price difference is the biggest thing.

    We have a new dual opteron 246 with 6gb ram going in for hexus soon

    Got to be two different batches of 2Gig of memory - like for like with the Xeon, and then PC2700 because the Opteron board could handle it.

    Remind me what the current server is?

    Nice spec anyway. Should handle plenty of SQL queries and PHP compilations.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();
