    Question Laptop CDRom Seeking constantly

    Hello again!

Right, I have an issue (or 5) with a freebie laptop I've been given.

The main issue at the moment is the fact that the cd-rom keeps seeking randomly, with or without disk inserted. What makes this more annoying is that it wont read disks at all, but that's another question for later.

It seems to 'spin up', on average, once or twice a minute. When the disk activity starts it slows the whole system. I'm guessing increasing the 256 RAM would help the slowing, but what is causing this drive to seek all the time? Any ideas? I've googled, and searched on here to no avail. *edit* Leaving the tray in the 'eject' position seems to stop the problem *edit*

Any advice would be gratefully followed up.

    The specs are...

    Fujitsu Seimens Lifebook C1020
    Mobile Celeron 1.5Ghz
    XP Pro sp3
    CD-ROM QSI SCR242

BIOS - insyde mobilePRO Version 4.00.1

    Thanks for viewing

*edit* Ooops, I think I put this in the wrong forum! If it is please move it, sorry.
