    Dual SATA HDD Enclosure

    Hey all...

i'm here to pick my peers and couterparts brains with regards to external storage. I'm running quite a setup at home, some of you may think excessive but I have a mail server web server and security system all running on seperate servers.

I'm looking to record the CCTV security images straight to hard disk via an external enclosure as I have picked up 4 500GB SATA hard disks pretty cheap.

I was looking at USB2.0 connections as NAS is only compatible with FAT32.

What I want to know is if any one is using a dual HDD enclosure that has the RAID functionality and has USB2.0 compatibility rather then network only.

Does any one have any experience of these?

    Hitesh

    Re: Dual SATA HDD Enclosure

Can't seem to find the link to two icybox dual sata enclosures on Scan. One of these enclosures costs £10 more than your typical enclosure, but rather spending minutes/hours trying to get the holes lined up & scews not going in at angle, for the £10 extra icybox enclosure, it's quick & easy to put HDD's in and out. Does support sata & usb, but from what I've been told from my bro, who is more techy than me, is that it doesn't support raid unfortunately.

    Re: Dual SATA HDD Enclosure

It depends what you want to spend but a Synology NAS box will take all four of those disks (the higher models will) and format them as one lump of raided disk if you like. They also have surveillance software built in, maybe worth a look.

Also, check out the following RAID boxes.......http://www.scan.co.uk/Search.aspx?q=raid

Alternatively fit the disks internally maybe?
    Hope that helps.
