    Cheap laptop?

What's the cheapest laptop on the market at the moment?

And when I say cheapest, I mean cheapest. I literally looking for something that has windows on it, has a Cat-5e connection and preferably has wordpad as well at notepad.

Pref WinXP as opposd to Vista, as Vista is a pain and would require a much much better laptop, but I don't mind.

Can you get this sort of thing for sub £100 yet?
Would I be better looking on freecycle or other similar things for throwaways?

The heaviest thing I can imagine myself doing on it is something like playing the Avernum Series (which are barely noted at all by most people) or typing up hundreds and hundreds of pages of documents.

    Thanks in advance

Meh.. I think that if there aren't any sub £100 (that aren't bright pink and liable to get me funny looks on trains and the like) I'll just live with this one and put out something on freecycle asking for any laptops that people have got lying around.

I do like freecycle.. you can get all sorts of free stuff from it....

    Re: Cheap laptop?

My local tesco currently stock several ASUS (?) laptops, their super small so obviously for people who travel alot and I'm pretty sure I saw a sign saying that they were from £69.99 for the most basic and £100 for the next level up.
Can't confirm this as they don't seem to have them on their website.

I know PC world offer a similar range of these "laptops" but they come in at around £150

As for specs I know their pretty dire, but if all you're wanting is basic web browsing and the ability to make the odd few notes on the train etc am pretty sure they would do the trick.

    Re: Cheap laptop?

I don't even want web browsing

My Tesco's don't stock them... I checked the local supermarkets yesterday.
May be worth me running up to the bigger one elsewhere though, so thanks for the information..

EDIT: Just to verify internet connection thingy:

Cat5e is only so that I can get a connection to my decent computer when I need one...

No web browsing? are you mad!?

Not sure where you're located but the Tesco I saw them at was the Stockton-on-Tees store. I know they do the Tesco direct thing in store there so perhaps you would be able to contact them directly and see if its eligible for delivery?

Best advice I can offer is to find the largest Tesco store closest to you that offers electrical goods. As they should stock them.

Otherwise best bet would be to save a little extra cash and get one for £150 instead?
