    Advice on spec

    Hey there,

I'm looking to upgrade from a fairly dated PC. At first i thought it might be an idea to save for the i7 upgrade. However I used to quite an enthusiast and now im getting back into PCs and gaming i will be upgrading atleast every year so i think spending less now and getting more 'bang for my buck' means in the not so distant future i can get the best bang for buck components again in say 12-18 months time. My budget is probably around £1000 but as said i don't think its worth blowing that all now, if i spend say only £500 i will have an extra £500 to spend in the near future.

    My current system specs are:
    CPU: AMD 64 3700+
Cooler : Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler
    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-K8NS-939
    RAM: 1GB 3200 OCZ
    Gfx: Leadtek AGP 7600 GT
    Case: ThermalTake Tsunami
    PSU: 520W Corsair
    HDD: 320gb SATA Maxtor
Monitor: 22" IIyama Vision Master Pro 514

I will mainly be using the PC for gaming and watching media. As a result I am looking to purchase a new monitor and im currently considering the Hyundai W240D. Is this a good choice? Anyway to run games at 1920x1200 I will obviously need a decent PC. After some research I have come up with the following.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
Cooler: Continue to keep my Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler
    Mobo: Asus P5Q-E Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
RAM: GeIL 4GB (CAS Timings 4-4-4-12)
    Gfx: Leadtek GeForce GTX 260 896MB GDDR3
Case : Antec P182 Super Midi Tower Case - No PSU
PSU: Continue to keep my 520W Corsair
    HDD: 640GB WesternDigital HDDs (WD6400AAKS)
    Monitor: Hyundai W240D

Firstly will my Corsair 520w PSU be able to cope with this?
Will the suggested spec be able to cope with games at that high resolution?

Any suggestions are welcome! I have a lot of questions so if anyone is feeling really helpful and wouldn't mind a quick chat on msn just send me a PM!

    Many Thanks

    Re: Advice on spec

It should all be fine. The corsair is a good quality psu and should be able to cope with it all. Maybe worth looking for the newer 260 core 216 with the extra quad enabled just for a little extra power for not much extra cost.

I cant find any professional reviews of the monitor but all the owner ones love it and wouldnt swap it.

    Re: Advice on spec

For gaming I would suggest E8400. Q6600 is only good in some games, though not essential. Fast dual-core is enough. Also maybe look into cheaper CAS 5 RAM. Core architecture not that depending on latency - few fps difference. You can save roughly 50 quid by doing this
