    New general browsing build :D

righty, building a general purpose rig for my auntie (will be used for web and office stuff, no gaming at all...), is there anything glaringly obvious that i have missed/changeable areas to save a few bob?
i havn't added a KB as i think it will need to be AZERTY.. but i'm not sure yet...
also i have an OS via MSDN.. so thats not needed either

also, whats the 300 like to live with?
also havn't used any TO offers as it's an outline ATM...

    cheers as always guys

also, i'm going to stop saying 'also' now

Apart from being monstrous overkill on the spec, it'll be fine! (I've just resurrected an 850Mhz Celeron sytem with Win2K (for a specific purpose) - and surprised that it performs pretty well!

TBH - an Asus terminator system, or similar offers pretty good value for money - you might want to add an FSP PSU (replace the one it comes with) all you need is the disk, memory and processor and would be fine for generalbrowsing, office stuff etc.

yeah, i agree, but she wants an air of futureproofing... ish... and she probably wants to do more than she has told me TBH.. and personally, i think that it will have some form of games on when cousins visit etc...

yeah, but i've had bad experiences with the flaky drivers for the T series... took me ages to get onboard LAN working (none of the ones on asus's site would work ) otherwise i would be using another one, as it was rather good looking.

Why not make it uATX. An Antec NSk3480 with the 380W earthwatts and Asus M2A-VM (also 690G) will be perfect and very quiet.

250GB AAKS is only £5 more, bit cheaper on today only
    http://www.scan.co.uk/product.aspx?ProductId=20181

Saved you £35 already, you might as well

CPU is cheaper on today only as well.

    That spec seems nice!

About the 300, I just got it a few days ago for my new (and first) build, it's awesome for such a cheap case. The PC isn't working yet though since the Graphic card seems to be dead on arrival :/

As for the case itself, it's nice, you can open the case without using any tools, my GTX260 (even if it didn't work) fitted in it pretty easy with like 2cm to spare.
As my PC hasn't worked yet since the card seems to be dead, I can't tell you much about cooling (doubt it matters though for a browsing PC) but it looks all good, the case felt actually pretty cold and the aluminium looks fine. ^^

    Oh why the 690G board...
Get a 740G (same graphics better everything else including power consumption) or 780G for much better IGP potential (and still better power consumption) although I realise you wont need it unless she decides to start watching HD content.

Or, for an extra £4 get more space and more cache:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=561030

Would it be worth chucking in a graphics card? Considering if when cousins visit etc? Something like the HD4670, but that does add £60 or so on.

i didn't think the newer ones offered much advantage TBH.. but as it has better power consumption then i will try and find a nice 740g

    Good comparison on this page.

I'm happy with my 690G but might get the 740G in your position.
