New Rig - Temps

Just checked with HW monitor that on my stock Q6600 im on temps of 40 degrees across the cores before load.

I only used a bit of thermal paste, possibly not enough. The heatsink seems secure and tight enough. I don't know really how best to test which of these are ok though.

P:S - Absolutley zero problems during the build!

That's ok. The temperature under load is a lot more important though. Do you know what that is?

I've just DLed SuperPi, running a couple of benchmarks to to check something for my mate (his 4870-x2 gave him sub 12k on 3dmark last week) when thats done I'll try 4 simulataniously on each core doing Pi to 12m.

SuperPi 8 got me up to 55/60 degrees....

Intel Burn Test got me to 90 and I cancelled it in fear of damaging the proccesor.

If it means anthing though, it drops from 90 degrees to 35 in a matter of seconds.

Just gonna test it again, if it was the problem what I just fixed then you'll have to beg me to tell you what I found could be the problem...

you had the CPU fan set to a silly low speed and it wasn't ramping up?

If it was the heat sink not being attached perfectly then that is a really common mistake most people make. If you accidentally screwed the case shut, with your cat inside, then that's not too common =P

How about leaving the bit of plastic sticker thing on the bottom of the heatsink (They really should make it bright green instead of see-through lol.

Temps sitting around 25 degrees now idle, on load with SuperPi 16m they've peaked at 35. BurnTest hits 55

hes using the xigmatec s1238 IIRC

Well, I took the HS out in my quest to reseat it

Yeah using the Xigmatek heatsink, 2 Xigmatek fans in front, 2 Antec fans at the back, Xiggy on the case, Zalamn *I think* on the VGA and the Corsair fan too, its all running sweedish at 27 degrees at the moment with all fans set to their lowest as it does get quite loud on high (I have switches on Antecs and Fan Controller inside case on Xiggies).

My personaly reccommendation though, As good as the Xigmatek is, it really is beautiful, it was single handedly the most time consuming and aggrovating part of the build. I'm not sure how you put fans onto other coolers but I really reccommend the technology, not so much the ease of use though.
