overheating xp2400???
Installed my new xp2400 into my mobo, and the PC kept freezing as soon as I put load onto the system.
Put my durion 1300 back in, everything fine.
I set the fsb to 133 and the multipler to 15 (15*133 = 2000MHz)stock speed.
My mobo is epox 8rda3+ so can support CPU.
Funny thing is, comp froze at nearly the exact same time period after switching it on. My HS is a zalman al-cu flower.
any ideas? I think the 2400 may be overheating.
Thanks
Paul

If the PC boots look in the bios to see if it getting warm.
If it gets into the OS download Motherboard Manager 5 to see if it getting warm.
It could be overheating but it could be other things too. Try running it with the case sides off. You may have fitted it incorrectly too or not applied the heatsink compound properly so try to redo it.

Hi, I downloaded motherboard manager, yes the xp2400 lets me into the OS.
I dont think it is overheating, as temp stayed at 43 degrees C.
might it be a the PSU?
My spec is:
Epox 8RDA3+ Mobo with NForce 2 chipset.
3.5" internal IDE Maxtor 80Gb HDD (Slave)
3.5" internal IDE Maxtor 9Gb HDD (Master)
5.5" internal IDE Teac CD-W54Ck CD-RW drive.
5.5" internal IDE Generic DVD-ROM drive.
ATI Radeon 9600 (non pro).
256mb RAM - 1x DIMM unit @ DDR400.
Videologic Sonic Fury s/c.
3.5" internal floppy drive.
1x neon case light.
1x Broadband modem (usb)
3x 80mm case fans.
1x 92 mm CPU fan (as part of Zalman al-cuCNPS6000 arrangement).
With the Duron 1300installed, everything works fine.
With the XP2400 installed, the system freezes approx 1 minute after logging into the OS, which is Windows XP).
My PSU is a generic 350W.
Any thoughts, ideas would be mush appreciated.
Many thanks

Have you got any spare parts, or someone else's PC to test with i.e. other PSU to use?
-
hi never quite got my xp2400 to work at stock speed, but work fine when underclocked at 133 X 14.
HGave noticed tho, that when i go inot dxdiag and test for 3D, my comp freezes then. cud the CPU and graphics card be incompatible.??

This is a long shot, but have you tried running your graphics card at 4x rather than at 8x (assuming it already is at 8x)?

Update--
took my whole PC to pieces and gave it a good clean out of dust etc, still got a freexing problem. (managed to lower CPU temp by 4 degrees tho)
Did a full partition and re-install of XP pro. still freezes.
It seems to happen when the Redeon 9600 (np) and XP2400 need to work together ie graphics intensive apps - games and 3d mark 03 etc.
Ran Memtest86 for 18 hrs, no probs there.
Ran CPU stability program for 8 hrs. no probs there.
Is Prime and CPU stability testing a definitive answer to if the CPU is faulty or not? Should I be able to get a refund or replacment from the place where i purchased it(Ebuyer)?
thx

PS code off CPU is :

Update
I loaded the fail safe defaults in the BIOS, and it set itself to the same settings an an XP1800 (15 x 100).
I ran 3dmark 2003 all the way through got a score of 3011.
yet when I run 3d mark with CPU settings of xp2400 (133x15), 3dmark 2003 causes a freeze.
My XP2400 cant be a rebadged XP1800 can it?
I purchsed it from a reputible online retailer (UK based).

Are you using the latest drivers for the graphics card ? and I assume there are no problems at all with it when you are using the duron ?
-
Is this all at stock speeds?
What memory do you have?
-
when i run the xp2400 at stock speeds, (15 x 133) @ 1.65V, the system freezes. no probs at all with the duron.
I have latest graphics driers.
Memory is generic DDR400 (samsung I think) 256Mb.

Id say its your PSU boss
that graphics card sucks a bit od juice and with a new cpu which will need more power than your old one it maybe worth starting there
