    PC failure

    Setup -

    A8N SLI32 deluxe,
    3800+ cpu,
    Artic 64 cooler,
    2 Gig Crucial RAM,
    7900 GTO,
    Samsung 80 Gig hard drive,
    Hitachi 250 Gig hard drive,
    NEC DVD writer,
    Strider 600W psu,
    Floppy disc,
    XP pro.

I built this about a year and half to two years ago and it has been working without a problem. It was working fine last night and it closed down OK.

Today it would not boot. At switch on all fans - two case(running straight from the psu), cpu(running from a motherboard header) and gfx fan - worked. Motherboard LED was also OK. But there were no front panel lights and no beeps and no signal to the monitor.

Checked all the connections which seemed OK.

Tried removing, one at a time, the hard drives, the DVD writer, the floppy drive, the gfx card and tried rebooting again after I had removed each of the components, but the result was the same each time - no front panel lights and no beeps.

Tried each stick of RAM separetely - same result.

Tried booting without RAM - I thought this should cause beeps indicating a RAM failure, but still same result - fans run, but no beeps.

Tried two sticks of different RAM which have LEDs that flash when they works. With this RAM the power light on the front panel came on, but still no beeps. Also the LEDs on these sticks of RAM did not flash.

I'm inclined towards it being a cpu or motherboard failure, but grateful for any views.

    TIA

also PSU fail is a strong contender m8

a duff rail can cause the above.

    Re: PC failure

Is the Northbridge fan running OK? These have a history of high failure rates and could stop the board booting.

    Re: PC failure

Thanks for the suggestions. The version of the board I have has a heatpipe instead of a fan for the northbridge.

Tried a different psu. Same result - all fans are spinning, but no beeps and no signal to the monitor.

As I've already tried different RAM and get the same result, seems its down to the cpu or the motherboard, but any other suggestions will be welcomed.

Might be time to go for a new 'board, cpu and RAM.

    Re: PC failure

Has to be Motherboard or CPU, and I think the board is the more likely culprit from your symptoms. Seems like it's not powering up.
