Unhappy New build keeps randomily resetting during boot

I´ve just finished building my pc.

I got help specing it out on here - components are:

    Q6700
    Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L
    4Gb Corsair RAM
    Xigmatek HDT-S1283
    ASUS Radeon EAH4850 512Mb
FSP 700W thats been on scans today only offer several times
    Antec 300 case

Its been my first build for a while. Currently it switches on - all the leds and fans come on including the dynamic load LEDs (show 100% load). I´ve seen the bios screen twice. Both times it taken a long time to appear. It then appears to reset. Other times it just appears to reset periodically (every 30 seconds or so) with no display output.

I.ve unplugged the HD and DVD - no change.

Anyone any idea why its not working and what to try?

Thanks - sorry about the typing - having to use my EEE laptop.

have you set the correct ram voltage ?

corsair can be funny if its at stock voltage, try on 2gb and see how it is

Don´t get to OS - when BIOS screen appears - I hit Del and screen disppears. It then resets 30 seconds later. Iĺl just go and try with 1 stick of ram.

Re: New build keeps randomily resetting during boot

Just removed second stick and i´ve got into BIOS! CPU is running at 23C - nice. What do I have to increase Voltage to let it boot correctly? Thanks again - Everyone on hexus has been ultra helpful to me with this build! If not for you guys i´d have boring dell box.

Re: New build keeps randomily resetting during boot

Yeah increase the DDR2 (memory) voltage to whatever the stated voltage is on the memory module (probably 2.1v) then try again

Ram shows 1.8V on side. I pretty certain thats what the BIOS showed (can´t check as installing OS). Should I increase it above that?

I don't think you can do much harm increasing it a little to 1.9v or 2.0v since from my experience there is a bit of leeway when it comes to mem voltages and people overclocking their memory do it often. Not sure whether your RAM sticks come with heatsinks as they will help dissapate the extra heat.

Re: New build keeps randomily resetting during boot

After searching corsairs site it states memory should run at 1.9V (why does label show 1.8?) howver i have tried 1.9 and 2.0 and it fails both times. 2.0V gets me a little further - I always see bios boot screen then it reboots rather than just rebooting before screen comes up. I have tried the DIMM slots 2 and 3 as its not clear from the manual which one enabled dual channel. I have also tried the troublesome stick on its own in slot 1 - same reboot pattern. Do I have a faulty stick of RAM?

Re: New build keeps randomily resetting during boot

that rams ment to run at 2.1 volt as its xms, its only designed to boot the pc at stock, and with 4gb its a hit and miss, also worth updating the bios with 2gb as that may help.

you may also find you need to up the northbridge voltage for stability with 4gb, only by or 2 increments, but it may be the answer

Re: New build keeps randomily resetting during boot

While other XMS memory is rated at 2.1v, this is rated at 1.9. I'd try swapping the stick to see whether the issue is with a particular stick of RAM, or whether it's an issue with this RAM and the motherboard with 2 sticks.

If the latter the blame may be more at the mobo end. Worth asking Corsair if they know of any issues with the board.

If you need to check each stick of ram to see if one is bad, I recommend you use memtest86+.

Re: New build keeps randomily resetting during boot

    Two new points:

    1) PC worked for about an hour - blue screened and kept resetting. Switched off and went to bed at that point.

    2) Gigabyte site shows 2 BIOS updates specifically for RAM compatibility so going to try that next.
