Weird clicking problem

Hi,

When i am using my computer, every now and again, (about every 5 minutes) the computer will freeze and then something will speed up and there will be a loud click. after that happens everything goes back to normal. A good example is when i was typing this, everything stopped and it sounded like the Cd drive/ hard drive was speeding up and then there was a load click and everything started working again.

What is causing this??

sounds like the hard drives on its way out, have you checked the event viewer for hard drive faults?

Nope, i don't know how to do that.

Can u give me a explanation on how to?

If it is my hard drive i'm going to be ridiculously angry because iv's only had it for 9 months.

go to control panel and switch to classic view, press administrative tools and then event viewer

you need to scroll through the application and system logs around the time of the last lock up and it should give you some clues

Hmmm. I have never had a problem, so don't know what it would report, but presumed it would report this.

Try:

..computer management
Event viewer
Windows logs
System?? - though i have a feeling this is only for software.

Any yellow ! marks, or red X's

How about running CHKDSK
(start
-type in CHKDSK
-Right click it
-Run as admin
-wait..............
-see what happens)

ok, i haven't run chkdisk yet but when i went to windows logs, i got 35384 errors! however when i was looking at it my error thing happened again and it didn't show it in the error log.

I will post the results of chkdisk when i get them.

Ok, CHKDSK should show any errors on the disk (and if it were to start clicking and freeze, then it would be cheacking one of the bad bits (i think))

Nope chkdsk didn't come up with anything.

1 question though did it scan both disks because i have 1 disk with my OS on and another with my games and apps on.
