    Will the 2x GTX280 power 3 monitors at 19inch
    Ya it will, a single GTX280 can power a 24" with ease. 19" won't be a problem.

Thanks for the advice... I'll look into nehalem, is this going to wipe the floor with todays tech ?
It probably will, today's CPU's etc aren't bad at all.
Nehalem is just the newest of the newest, better than the best. (expected, nothing can be 100% sure) but if you really wish to spend 5k on gaming rig, wait for Nehalem, it's your best bet.

    Here's what I'd spend 5k on given your requests;

with possibly the inclusion of a 1TB e-sata drive to take to your Mom's.

Why not spend £1k on a PC, £1k on a big screen and £3k on a sound system?

    Or atleast a free mug.

I'd wait until christmas. Bank the money, gain some interest, and wait for more (intels) SSD's to be released, along with the X58, and for intel to release most of their high end i7's, and for DDR3 to become more mainstream. For that kind of money, you might aswell wait for a x58 skulltrail and wack a few i7 Xeon equivalents on

Now, I'm guessing, but will your quote be somewhere around the £5000 mark?

Re: £5k and £1k new build thoughts please???

    Just a quick thought.

If you spend 5 grand on a PC now, within a month it will have halved in value, within 2 months it will have been superseded by something twice as fast and within 3 months, it will probably be worth less than a grand second hand.

I recommend buying your dad a tent.

Re: £5k and £1k new build thoughts please???

Can't really be bothered to read through that mess. I'm sure it's probably been said already though that you will be hard pressed even at fairly high resolutions 1920 x 1200 etc.. to notice a difference between your 5K PC and your 1K PC, self built anyway.

The money would be better off served in an PC pot if you like, £1000 - £1500 now.. then upgrade or sell on and start again etc...

During that time the money will earn interest.. assuming your bank doesn't running off screaming down the road.. which will pay for some of the upgrades anyway.

If you really want a 5K PC though and there just isn't any help for it. Then skull trail 2 3.0GHz Quads, SLi 280GTX's, 8GB of RAM, hardware raid, 5TB array etc.. should see you along nicely

Nope, I wouldn't do that, I charge a flat rate of £35 for building, overclocking, cable management and operating system sorting and speeding up...
