looking for a back up hdd...

...just after a reliable SATA drive (500gb) to back up my MANY(many many many!) photos but can't figure out which is the best to go for, are seagate and western digital about the most reliable out there? and whats the difference between a caviar blue or green?!!

Caviar green are the 5400RPM drives I think. Obviously very energy efficent but not the fastest.

I'd actually get the 640GB AAKS. It's less than £50 now and has amazing performance £ for £. The AAKS range in general is very reliable in my experience. I have about 5 or 6 of them now, all very happy

Thing is, speed is probably not that important if it is only being used for backups.

Samsung do some great drives. the F1 series are really good.

yeah not really after speed, 7200 is ok and pretty much standard in these things anyway isn't it
