Thats a tricky price. Real "gaming" laptops don't get worthwhile until £1200 - £1300 especially in 15" chassis.
I'd take a look at the dell xps M1530 and the new Asus G1.
good price comparison of the dell here and price codes if they are cheaper than the dell site.

Check www.rockdirect.co.uk as well.
basic pegasus 520

I would love the alienware 15" though. 8800GTX

I'd upgrade to the GTX and then leave the RAM and HDD basic, upgrade that yourself for an extra £100 or so. £1400 is blowing the budget wide open but that is an awesome laptop.

cheers dell looks good,
Ive found a really nice one from PC Specialist, any experience?
cheers
Not used them personally but I wouldn't have a problem using them if they had something I wanted.
If it's the one with the 512mb 8600GT I'd try and find out if that is GDDR2 or GDDR3. The GDDR3 (in the xps albeit in 256mb guise) is a fair bit better.
If you don't mind going for lower volume manafacturers rizeon and zepto are quite good. Decent spec Rizeon here with some nice upgrades and insurance backed warranties

Nvidia Geforce 9650M GT 1024MB
In the Rizeon DDR2 or 3?
No idea tbh, I think it's a very good card with either though.
I'd check with rizeon, very friendly guys there
If you get the Rizeon it might be worth spending the extra £20 to upgrade the processor to the 25W version that is an almost 30% reduction in power consumption for no performance loss, will be cooler as well so you get less fan noise.
And possibly the extra ram, £30 for an extra gig seems a bit steep but it will be cheaper than buying 4GB after market and then having to keep hold of the 3GB that came in it in case it needs to go back for repair.
Edit: Just been reading around and the 9650M is GT is similar in spec to a 9500 GT (in case you want to check some benchmarks).

The Toshiba Qosmio Lappy's might be worth a look at, although not as nice as some already posted,
The only thing I didn't like on the D630 and 830 was the matte screens. The colour reproduction was awful for me, green was closer to grey.
