    gel pad mouse mats

Do they actually offer any extra comfort over normal mats?

Ive been using my mouse for over 6 months without a mouse mat, and seriously need one.

    Thinking of this: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=542590

I like the idea of it offering comfort, or are the normal ones just better?

    Thanks

    Re: gel pad mouse mats

I cant comment on the felt one but i have the gel ones (coated in plastic or something) and they are quite nice but then my desk has a sharp edge which is why i got it, i found that i rest my wrists alot more on it but then i guess its because my desk is to high(stupid chair), if you are higher or same level with it then they are nice. Got mine from ebuyer this one http://www.ebuyer.com/product/74617 and i have the keyboard one to, they came in dark blue/black as pic is wrong, my only con about the mouse one is the surface area of the mat because its just to small alot of the time since my cyborg mouse is pretty big(half the size) but other than that its good.

Its not a necessity but if you want it then get one.

ahh! my friend has one of these, but its only really soft on supporting ur wrist up, if u keep ur mouse movements, in a relatively small area.

but for me, i'm all over the place.

    Re: gel pad mouse mats

Personally I have one of these http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=393940 yes I know its expensive oh and its huge but its really comfortable and a perfect surface for my Razer Copperhead, the two surfaces Speed and Control actually do give a different feel (I use Speed as you can see below, batteries are AA for reference).

    Re: gel pad mouse mats

I use one of those i got mine from argos
I do CAD all day and find since using it my wrist does not hurt
my wrist rests/pivots on the gel lump
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

    Re: gel pad mouse mats

    NO DON'T DO IT !!!!

Seriously, the gel part encourages you to rest your wrist whilst moving the mouse thus restricting your tendons in your carpel tunnel. I used one for ages years ago, and actually made my wrists noticably worse until after a health and safety at work course highlighted this.

Better not to rest your wrist during use.

I bought that gel mouse mat about 6 months ago thinking that it would be more comfortable. BUT I think its terrible, i have mine turned to the side and use it as a normal mouse mat. your wrist sits in a very high posistion making it very difficult to actually get your hand around your mouse

    Wish I hadn't bought mine..

    Re: gel pad mouse mats

That Razor mat is very nice but the price . I seriously would not ever spend that sort of money on a mouse mat no matter how nice it is.

    Re: gel pad mouse mats

I found that when i got my first Gel Support Mouse pad it was very strange to use and i switched back to a standard style of pad, but about a year ago when i got my iMac i also bought a Gel Support Mouse pad and found that it was awesome help while using the mouse Apple supplied and now i dont think i could go back to a standard mouse pad,

I recently ordered the Razor pad mentioned above and hopefully will get it today so will let you guys know if i think its worth the money or not,

    /Rookie

P.S I ordered at Play.com and they have it in stock for £17.99 and i guess you cant put a price on comfort when you spend hours at a computer desk!

Also there are other Razor Mouse Pads that might also be worth a look, i just ordered the Death Adder Mouse and Lycosa Gaming Keyboard to go with mine
