Scan Out Of Stock, which is the better alternate?

I was going to buy a 512MB Sapphire HD 4670 for £60 however it is not in stock at scan.

Then I saw a 256MB PowerColor HD 3850 on Today Only reduced from £70 to £40.

I don't do a lot of high end gaming, mostly just Football Manager and Civ4. I do occasionally play some CS:S and other FPS, but I am not remotely bothered about top of the range gaming. Mostly I just want to play HD TV.

So, my question is, which is better for my needs? Or are they going to be the same?

    Thanks

ps. Also, the PSU I was recommended (450W Corsair VX) is not in stock, is there much difference with a 60W Akasa AK-P460FG?

    Thanks again

Re: Which Is the better GPU?

Assuming not that high requirements for performance i'd go with 4670 due to it's lower power consumption and pretty much similar performance to 256MB version of 3850. But for 40 quid it's a great offer.

Re: Which Is the better GPU?

As to the power supply if you can't get the corsair I would go for 430W Seasonic S12 II, Seasonic make the internals for the VX450 so the chances are pretty high they are almost/if not exactly identical inside

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=618000

In fact I'm not sure why we don't recommend this slightly cheapre model more often

Oh GPU wise the 3850 is a bargain The is the 512mb version on ebuyer for £58 not sure if the extra memory ids worth the 50% increase in price though.

Re: Which Is the better GPU?

I would agree with webby, that PSU is a good option, and personally I would go with the 3850, at £40 its a bargain, and performance will be similar to the 4670 I would think.

I would also say at £85 get a P45 mobo, gigabyte EP45-DS3L/R or Asus P5Q

And this Corsair RAM rather than Super Talent, its a bit cheaper and corsair are excellent:

lol. I dont think I will get this stuff today, too many questions!

I will swap out the RAM, thats a good tip, however is a P45 board a little bit overkill for me with the 1600FSB?

How about dropping to a lower priced P35 board? Like the Intel P35 board? I have never bought Intel boards, and looking at the spec, it is perfect, but what are they like for reliability and overclocking?

Thanks again guys, I would be lost without this place!

Re: Which Is the better GPU?

Intel branded boards tend to have little to no overclocking features.

I would probably go with the P45 board or if money is tight then a cheaper P35, it really is not worth spending £85 on a P35 board though.

Possible worth considering the P43 boards as well, if they fit your needs, the Abit IP43 for £61 or Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L for £65.

The HD 3850 may use more power but is more powerful even though of an older generation.

OK. I think the Abit fits perfectly. Right number of I/O ports, and a good price.

I have bought the 256MB PowerColor HD 3850. It might not be quite as good as the 4670, but at £40 I have saved £20 I didn't want to be kicking myself later on.

I only live 5mins from scan, so I am going to get the other stuff tomorrow, when I have had a bit more time to organise it!

    Thanks again guys!

I notice you guys get 'thanked' in your profiles? How would one do that for you?
