    External Hard Drive

Whats a good external hard drive to get nowadays? I have looked and am a bit stumped. Need probably 500GB, to back up my home server (despite Mirror RAID) and PS3. Want it to look nice though, don't want any cheap looking rubbish!

    Re: External Hard Drive

LaCie make some very nice looking drives and most of them come with triple interfaces (firewire 400, 800 and USB)

I have one of the older metal cased ones supposedly designed by Mr Porsche

Seagate FreeAgent is the one u should consider of. My desktop one performs very well so far, completely silent when idle, and you have to try hard to hear the slight clicks when writing large files or spinning up (which it takes only a few seconds to do). Also the new version looks much better in my point of view T_T

You might want to consider a decent external enclosure, and buying whatever drive you want to put in it?
There are dozens and dozens to choose from - with various connection options (USB 2.0, Firewire, eSATA)... they have a lower profile than many external drives (i.e. WD Essential/Seagate FreeAgent)... and an enclosure provides a quick and easy method of swapping out the hard drive as/when it fills up
