Reccommend A Wireless PCI Card For Vista64

    Ok,

So some of you may have seen a few thread floating about regaring the new pc I have built. I am glad to report that everything is working fine . . . exept I cannot get my Belkin wireless LAN card to work! The website doesn't seem to have drivers my card version, and the closest one is Vista32!

So, my question is, can anyone suggest a PCI card for me? Or should I just get a USB one. I dont know why, but I dont like the idea of USB wireless, but if it works . . .

    Thanks

I have one of these n rather than g so speeds upto 300Mbps if your wireless router is n as well if not it will run at standard g speeds.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=631616

Running with it under XP, documentation says it supports XP64 and Vista (doesn't specify 32 or 64 bit) the driver download site doesn't specify either http://www.edimax.com/en/support_detail.php?pl1_id=1&pl1_idSelect=support.php%3Fpl1_id%3D1%26mwsp%3D1&pd_id=225

Re: Reccommend A Wireless PCI Card For Vista64

Were currently using this combo at home - Router - USB Key, My brother uses the USB Key on one of his windows machines and he swears by it! He can't believe at how good the connection with a USB dongle is, although it is pricey and there are a lot of cheaper options out there but it suites us perfectly and links 1 iMac, 1 MBP, 1 Laptop, 1 Windows dinosaur and 2 windows gaming systems,

You could always try it and if its not for you just return it in the first 7 days

    I would recommend this:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=457260

Ive got two and theyre so easy to use with vista, native support for 32bit and 64bit so no need to hunt for drivers anywhere, also theyre pretty cheap, and come with a low profile bracket if you ever need it.

Re: Reccommend A Wireless PCI Card For Vista64

Well, this worked, in a sense.

The new PCI card worked a treat, vista found it straight away, found my wireless network . . . then . . would not connect to the network.

After an hour messing about, I rang 02 support, who suggested I change some very random settings and then . . nothing.

So I am going back to XP, and learning to deal with only seeing 3.75G of my 4G RAM. At least I will get DRIVERS THAT WORK!

I fu*king hate Vista. I would say 'Roll on Windows7' but that is going to be ****e as well!

What makes you so sure this is a Vista issue? People are often very quick to point the finger at Vista....if indeed it was an issue with the drivers then it would be Asus at fault, not Microsoft.

I can confirm, as others have that this card works on both Vista 64 and 32bit; I've been using it for about a year. It sounds to me like your network isn't set up correctly.

lol. I think is was on the brink of madness at the point of writing that. I am now back on Vista and 'touch wood' it is working ok!

I agree that I was too quick to blame Vista, but I still think there is still some driver issues with Vista64.

Still, all is well for now!

Glad that it has worked out for you in the end, hopefully that will be the end of your problems.

Ive not had any problems with that card with vista 64bit as I said so im glad that wasnt a bad recommendation :S.

Re: Reccommend A Wireless PCI Card For Vista64

Looks like I spoke to soon.

The card is very temperamental. It works, until I put the side back on my case, the speeds drop massively, and after disconnecting from the wireless, I cannot reconnect.

Very annoying! Going to spend a little cash on PCI card and see what happens.

Re: Reccommend A Wireless PCI Card For Vista64

I had a similar inconsistency problem with that card in Vista 64 about a year ago. Speeds hovered around dial up or lower, occasionally up to a few hundred kbps, and frequent cut outs. I am not that experienced with networks though and I ended up just getting some homeplugs a week later to save on the hassle. Since others have it working it is possible that there is an incompatibility with some other hardware. My specs at the time were E6750, 8800gts 320, gigabyte p35, yours?. Possible conflict with NV drivers, TBH I didn't dig too deep into the issue since the homeplugs replaced it.

Re: Reccommend A Wireless PCI Card For Vista64

Well, if it works with the case side off and then stops working with the side on, then I suspect its got something to do with the case side blocking the wifi signal. Which is a bit odd, but is more likely to do with the router giving poor signal strength. Actually yesterday afternoon I was having some problems with mine giving me very poor download speeds, but it was easily fixed by a quick dust and re-seat in the PCI slot. But till that point it was working fine for 18months and is now fine again.
