    Case Fan

So basically I have an antec p180, the worst case I have ever possessed and after a year the top fan is broken and the back one makes a horrible whirring noise (i think its catching on something).... so i want to buy some new ones, can someone recommend some? I don't really want to spend a lot but I would like them to be as quiet as possible (currently case sounds like a jet)

    thanks!

    Re: Case Fan

I assume they are both 120mm fans in which case if you don't want to spend a lot I would say the Zalman F3 is a reasonable bet you can use the included resister to slow them down if they are to noisy at stock speeds for you http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=396304

If your prepared to pay a bit more then the Sharkoon silent eagle/golf ball 1000 are very quiet, finally if your in the mood for spending serious cash the Scythe S-Flex 1200 rpm or the Noctua P12 these will set you back about the same each as for 3 of the Zalmans.

Oh or the is always the Yate Loons

i'm buying one of these and need to spend 20 excl VAT for free carriage from scan. I need two fans so I could go for the slightly better ones like the sharkoon, except they aren't in stock.

Not sure on your budget, but I have tfour of these in my case

http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=532626 (two 120mm and two 80mm), and the PC is still whisper quiet. So quiet I replaced a hard drive after fitting the fans because the drive became the loudest thing in the case.

    Re: Case Fan

The Sharkoon 2000 is not quiet, anything above 1600rpm on a 120mm is generally going to be loud.
Sharkoon 1000 is too weak IMO.

Anyway, for the rear I recommend the Zalman F3 (you need to plug this into a controller or motherboard and reduce the fan speed a bit, full speed 1800rpm is quite loud)

    for the top, Scythe S-Flex E (1200rpm) or F (1600rpm), the F might be a tad audible.

Can also vouch for these. They come with a resistor wire which cuts the RPM by ~ half if you use it, so they can be really quiet.

    Re: Case Fan

The S-FLEX 1600rpm is far from quite, it is still very low sound level but not slient, the 1200rpm is your best bet for air and sound
The 900rpm is as near slient as makes no odds, However it really doen't move much air
Not the cheapest of fans, but they are really solid and heavy compaired to others and no vibrations

For a cheaper fan the sharkoon golf balls are good.

PS don't discount the Silverstone fans they are nice.
http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=615592 = quiet, ok but not amazing air flow.
http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=292216 = higher air flow but slightly louder

    Re: Case Fan

If your still under warranty, ANtect will replace them, if not i recently bought Yate Loons from ChilledPC, and cannot praise them enough, fantastic fans, very quiet even at full blast, and airflow is excellent, my case temps have even come down! no joke, i have them on a fan controller which makes it even better.

    Here they are: http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...roducts_id=230

Its the M version, which is the middle one, the High ones have better airflow, and if you have a fan controller, they would be better choice imo.

    Re: Case Fan

the quietest fan i own is the scythe kaze jyuni 1200rpm, at full speed it is barely audible and it shifts a decent amount of air, i used the sharkoons but found them to be too noisy at full speed

    Re: Case Fan

ok im thinking a zalman f3 for the rear and a noctua for on top (it seems the scythe's are equivalent quality but they dont have all that cool stuff about austrian engineering and oil lubricated bla bla and i'm a sucker for marketing )

    sound ok?

or would two zalmans be ok in reality? i'd rather save a fiver to be honest

    Re: Case Fan

The S-Flex use some of the best bearings you can buy, and the Noctua marketing stuff is just that marketing.

If it was my money I would probably get a S-Flex (1200rpm) for the top and then either a Yate Loon D12SL12 or an Arctic Cooling AF12025L for the back.

I would buy them from Chilled PC as well great service and quick delivery with reasonable delivery costs http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/index.php?cPath=75 postage would be ~£2 for both fans so a total of £16 for the SFlex, AC and delivery.

The fluid dynamic bearings on the S-Flex are much better for horizontal positioning than sleeve bearings found on most cheaper fans this makes it a perfect candidate for the top slot.
