Passive 8800 GT with the Accellero S1 rev2?

I'm thinking about buying the Accelero S1 rev 2 for my 8800 GT, and running it with an intake fan attached to the hard drive cage on my antec P182. That fan wouldn't be at the front of the case infront of the cage, but closer to the middle attached to the opposite side, to act as a blower fan. Would it be possible to keep it cool with this setup?

Pictures in this thread seem to have died but if you read through the text it still makes sense.

Essentially the answer is yes, but only if you have adequate air flow within your case. Which is very possible with a P182.

Re: Passive 8800 GT with the Accellero S1 rev2?

Just had the Accelero S1 rev2 delivered and installed it which was a bit of a nightmare (I couldn't one of the screws to go through, and one of the retention clips snapped during installation (so I just secured them with zipties). Despite those issues, after installing with no attached fans, and only the nearby case fan blowing cool air over the fins, my card now idles at 40 degrees and goes under load at 53. I think thats a pretty impressive result for a fairly beefy graphics card with only a fan nearby on low speed. The build quality of the fins is totally solid, its probably how they're able to draw away so much heat.

Hehe, my 3870 idles at high 20's full load 39 though my cooling may have cost a bit more than the accelero... but i guess if you just take the GPU block I paid £22 for the MCW60 and Ram sinks, I did need pump, rads, piping etc as well but hey that doesn't count does it that all cools the NB and CPU as well

Re: Passive 8800 GT with the Accellero S1 rev2?

Yeah unfortunately water cooling requires a bit too much dedication for me . Anyway I really recommend this cooler to anyone with a loud graphics card fan and a decent sized case with good airflow. Without any fans attached it only uses one additional slot which makes passive cooling quite practical if you can get the airflow right.

Thanks for the link Emirzan (that made my mind up about the purchase).
