I'm still plodding along with my 8x8x24 Internal SCSI CDRW drive. I love SCSI, but I've done some looking and can't find any DVD writers that use it.
Is IDE worth going with now? I know it's cheap, but I'm not a huge fan.
What about SATA? They making any SATA optical drives yet?

SCSI has sucked for a long time (sorry :p) way too over priced
your much better off with IDE, especially for optical drives, if not for hard drives, sure SCSIs faster for HDDs, but doesnt make a lot of diff for optical drives, as most need low bandwidth anywya, so go for ATA
SATA is basically ATA with a diff connector :p and it goes faster, better for HDDs, speeds nearly up there with SCSI but they dont make SATA optical drives, as they dont need it ATA is fast enuff, so go for an IDE, but keep your SCSI HDD, unless u wanna move that to SATA ;)

SATA is NOT just ATA with a different connector. However, I like SATA because of the cabling you can use.
bah, most SATA drives are at the moment PATA drives with SATA connectors, so they can make more money out of us ! they are only slightly faster, the raptors as said are the only real SATA drives IMO, and actually give better performance, and i didnt say it was as good as a SCSI, said nearly as good ;)
well your right ata isnt better than scsi, but for price ratio i think it is :)

AFAIK the only SCSI DVD recorders are industrial mastering units - which are a bit on the expensive side..
You'll probably be stuck with IDE if you want to keep your bank manager happy..
None of the major players are building SATA optical drives either at the moment, the nearest you'd get is an ordinary PATA drive with a PATA-SATA adaptor.
It's a pity really as SATA cables are *so* much nicer to work with in a case :)
