Re: Empty drive... or not?
160,000,000 / 1024 (KB) / 1024 (MB) / 1024 (GB) = 149.011612 GB which is what you get.
Re: Empty drive... or not?
hello,
I understand why it is meant to be 149 when empty, but it's 148... :S

The drive have a tiny bit of space reserved to MFT, filesystem which eat up about 1GB of space
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/156560
This page tells you there are a bit more overhead on NTFS than FAT32 (assume 100000 files). Even assume FAT32 takes no space you still lose about 500M~1GB easily.
In short, some space is reserved for putting information about the file which is not counted towards the filesize.
