    Overclocking niggle

    Had this system
    Leadtek nForce2 Ultra Delux | Athlon1700+@2.3Ghz | 512MB Corsair XMS3200 | GeForce Ti4200 64MB@305/610 | 2*120GB WD SE HD

At that OC for ages now but I've had one problem with it since leaving it at 2.3Ghz, my PC simply won't re-boot. It will close down winxp okay and get to the black screen, then stay there with the HD light still on. The only way to stop this is to switch the PSU off/on then boot up. And usually on boot up it'll stick on "Verifying DMI pool" or something like that. So I have to switch it off by the PSU for 10min then boot up and it's fine.

The only thing I've noticed is that "vddq" is only at 1.48, is that a bit low? I've got an enermax 350W PSU.

What is the VDDQ meant to be rated at?

Maybe try and clock it down a bit, or tweak the RAM. Run memtest, prime95 to test for stability. Memtest is prolly better as it sounds like a problem with the RAM to me. Have you only got 1x512mb? or is it 2x256mb in dual channel? Try running with only 1 if you arent already.

Not sure, the option up from vddg default is 1.7, so I'm guessing 1.6, that's why I thought 1.48 was a bit low.

Have tried it at 200*10 but no differentce. Prime95 is stable. It's 2*256mb in dual channel.

    Will run mem test 2nite.

Have you got the nVidia IDE drivers installed because that's the exact same problem they caused for me

Yes I have, but how would they effect the boot up sequence though?

Worth a try, how do I un-install the nVidia IDE drivers?

In Device Manager, update the driver and choose known drivers and select "standard dual channel PCI IDE controller"...

It means your RAM isn't happy.

Any errors in memtest are bad no matter how few. If it functions fine at stock speed, look at lowering the clock or upping the voltage, if it can take it.

Bah, got it running at 2.8v at the moment, strange thing is though I swapped one of the orignal sticks because it was faulty, now there still seems to be problems with them.

Would it be this memory stopping me from being able to do a proper re-boot and sometimes get "Verifying DMI pool data" hangs when booting up?

It does sound like more of a memory problem than anything else....as a PSU issue would just randomly turn off/reboot, or during high stress.

Try just running one stick, and see if you get any errors on that

Currently it's a 48C full load using SLK 800 + 92mm fan. It's currently at 200*11.5 which it runs stable in windows and it's never crashed on me and passed prime 95, but has failed the memtest which I ran yesterday and doesn't re-boot correctly or comes up with "veryifying DMI pool data" sometimes.

Got some new RAM on the way so we'll see how it goes.
