Whats the best ram to get for my D.A.W

Hello everyone. I have a question. I just built me a new intel computer. I have a e8500 core 2 duo, 2 gigs of cosiar ram 800mhz (for now) and a 550 watt cosiar power supply. I want top notch performance from this as I use cubase with a HUGE number is vst instruments such as Komplete 5,trilogy bass, symphonic choirs, hypersonic and the list goes on. I also do recording using effects. Im using my friends memory for right now because I havent decided what to get.

Ok,is it better to get faster mhz on the ram? People tellin me to get 1066mhz instead of 800mhz,I believe I will overclock a little, also is it best for me to get 4 gigs or 2gigs of ram. I know windows will not register all sticks. My mobo can use up to 1200mhz on the ram. I just want a setup where I can fly through projects. I have 2 500 gigs, one will have xp,the other with vista,I also am a game head.

    Let me know,thanks.

Just get 4 GB of 800MHz RAM and upgrade to 64bit; 1066MHz is only really of use for huge overclocks TBH.

Re: Whats the best ram to get for my D.A.W

Okay first what overclocked speed are you looking yo achieve? Your E8500 has a FSB of 333 and a multiplier of 9.5 to give you a stock speed of 3.16GHz (333 x 9.5) if you wanted to use 4GHz then you would need to raise the FSB to 421MHz I would expect all quality DDR2-800 to be able to overclock the required 42MHz to run at this speed. If however you wanted to run at 4.5GHz your FSB would be 474 which would push your memory speed to DDR2-948 while some DDR2-800 sticks will run this fast it is by no means guaranteed.

So basically if you want to overclock to 4GHz then get some DDR2-800 if you want to go much further than this then DDR2-1066 will probably be the better option.

As to brands, Corsair, OCZ, Geil, Crucial are all good, personally I have OCZ at the moment and you can not fault the customer service, equally Corsair have a care forum here on Hexus which makes solving problems a lot easier, Yellowbeard (Corsair Guy) was helpful in solving one of my issues a while back.
