COuld this have damaged my CPU?

Some of you who have very kindly helped me with my recent BIOS issues will know I'm having problems with the temperature reporting from the BIOS. As a result, my system constantly thinks it is freezing cold and keeps the CPU fan RPM at a minimum. So, I've had to keep coretemp open in order to be on the safe side, and make sure my CPU doesn't fry. Normally it isn't really a problem, as the minimum on my CPU fan seems to be 300RPM, and as it is an excellent heatsink (Zalman 9700), the temps stay low anyway.

Today (very cold) was different however. I booted into windows, opened coretemp, and found it was reporting temps as low as 13 and 15C on the 2 cores. They would stay below 20. What's even more wierd however, was that my CPU fan decided to go further down that 300. First to 30(!), then to 0 RPM. Yes, 0. It simply stopped moving. Looking through the case window, I could see that it seemed to attempt to rotate, then stop. It would keep repeating this for the next 20 seconds. The temperatures did not change much, they stayed below 20 again. My system shut itself down due to that the settings in Abit uguru make it do so whenever the fan RPM drops too low.

Could I have damaged my CPU in any way?

It's very difficult to burn out an Intel CPU this way.

You probably have the sticky sensor issue... unless your room happened to be 5°C the is no way your CPU was idling at less than 15°C with that cooler especially with its fan spinning at 300rpm or less.

Even my water cooling when I first start up only keeps my CPU idling at ~22°C when the room is ~15°C and when the room temps get up to ~20°C idle temps are closer to ~28°C.

Have you considered a new motherboard? It may be the only way to resolve this issue or you could plug the CPU fan onto a 12v connection instead so that it ran full pelt all the time, get a fan extension cable which allows RPM throughput and attach that to the CPU header to keep uGuru happy.

I think I've managed to fix the BIOS issues now by flashing to v11 BIOS.

The CPU seems ok, so I'm not worried. Thanks guys!
