Quiet PSU needed for new rig?

Hi. Im looking to build a new rig and what im planning to put in it is below

Case Antec 900 £75.07
Mobo Asus P5Q PRO £91.56
CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 £193.80
CPU Cooler ASUS V-60 Quiet Intel LGA775 £27.48
Memory 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR2 £81.65
Graphics 256MB Sapphire HD2400XT £32.89
HDD £0
DVD-RW £0
PSU 600W Tagan TG600-BZ* £82.24

I know the graphics card is a bit lame but all i need it to do at the moment is put a picture on the screen.

Is the PSU quiet enough/good enough or would you recomend a different one. Trying to buy it all from SCAN as its just down the road. Is there any other issues with any of the hardware i've chosen?

Thanks

Nice list That's gonna fly when it's running.

Personally, I would change the PSU from the tagan to something similar such as the following as it's got a longer 5 year warranty and everybody swears by them now ;

Corsair HX 620W PSU

I hope this information helps

Agree.
Also the models from Seasonic are silent and very efficient (actually they produce most of the corsair psus as well), like this one:http://scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebPr...12cm+Quiet+Fan

The HX520 would be more than enough power for that rig so save yourself a bit of money over the HX620

Oh and its on Scan Today only (£64.61) so you can save a bit more

Re: Quiet PSU needed for new rig?

I agree with the 520W HX, it will run pretty much any single graphics setup and is barely a whisper.

Why the 2400xt though? the HD3450 or HD3470 would be better for the same money

I'd also change the CPU cooler to a Scythe Ninja II £30 on scan.

I'd also change the case to the coolermaster CM-690 which is cheaper and does everything the 900 does + more, such as tidier cables and better/quieter drive management. Looks similar too.

Not trying to be critical btw that is a nice system you have put together, but I'm assuming you want it very quiet overall and with the changes above I think it would be quieter still

Not everbody.
Remember the 5 year warranty is OK but how many high end users use the same PSU for 5 years??? Not many.
There is no denying that the Corsair is decent but to say everyone swears by them is very misleading.
This Enermax MODU+82 Units are superior in quality, efficiency and sound levels.
Look at this (also from Scan): http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...d%2c+SafeGuard

The Corsair 620W (Lee's link) is massive overkill for your requirements.

Remember also, that you were prepared to pay £80+ for a Tagan. The link i have given to the Enermax MODU+82 525W will give you massive headroom on the rig you propose.

I have had Enermax PSUs (currently have the MODU82+ 625W....and even my Enermax Liberty 500W was a superior unit)) and also have a Corsair 520W. Comparing the 2, and considering the small prioce differences, there is no competiton. The Enermax is the better unit in EVERY department.

Thanks for the help. Much appreciated Im now thinking of going with

525W Enermax MODU82+ (http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...d%2c+SafeGuard)

256MB Sapphire HD3470 PCI-E 2.0 (http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...+Ready+Passive)

Scythe Ninja II Heatpipe Cooler (http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...d+940+and+AM2+)

Antec P182 (http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...+Black+(no+PSU))

Always liked that case

Any other suggestions/ideas before I purchase tomorrow? Quieter is better

Thanks

Leftfield choice but I have two of these in machines and they're extremely quiet: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=575200

Corsair's a solid choice tho - i have the 1000w one too

Re: Quiet PSU needed for new rig?

I would say use a smaller PSU like the HX450W. The current configuration will tops at 250W even when overclocked by 30%. (Note I have a very similar setup, just with half a dozen more harddrives)

If you do not need a fast graphics card, get a G43 board instead.

Get the Xigmatek cooler which everyone recommends here (and 33% cheaper than the Asus one).

The cooler arthurleung suggests is the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 on Scan for <£19 but is currently at call for price so I guess they are out of stock and do not know what the next batch will cost, yet.

Exactly. The 450w corsair will be really quiet and more than adequate for that system. I have no issues at all with a 500w PCP&C unit (basically the same spec) and I have a HD4850.

Re: Quiet PSU needed for new rig?

The 450W VX is a nice PSU but I have the 520W HX in my P182 and it's much easier to deal with that a non-modular.

Scythe Ninja II Heatpipe Cooler (http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...d+940+and+AM2+)

Antec P182 (http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...+Black+(no+PSU))

Always liked that case

Any other suggestions/ideas before I purchase tomorrow? Quieter is better

Thanks
That PSU is 100% the best choice.
It will also leave you plenty of headroom for future upgrades.

All you have to do is see that MODU+ and the Corsair (regardless of which one), and you will see that your choice is above is the right one.

On a side note interestingly I find that it is impossible to fit a modular PSU in P180 (They probably fixed it in P182) which blocks the lower chamber fan :S
