    Heatsinks...

Well i think its been posted alot but im wondering what heatsink i should get for my e8400, i hear the xigmstek is rated well and its only £18 at scan
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...uad+Core+Ready
Thats the one yeh?. Question is, will it fit in a cm 690 and on an asus p5n-d 750i mobo, is it a big heatsink? cos there is a NB heatsink and i got ram lol. Also if there are better heatsinks between £15 and possibly £25(preferably under) then please say .

    Any help is appreciated.

    Re: Heatsinks...

It should fit fine in a CM690.
I use Thermalrights in them and they fit fine.
    Same size.

    Re: Heatsinks...

My brother has a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 (what you linked) in a CM690, on a Phenom 9750, cant comment on the clearances on the motherboard though sorry

The only other Heatsink I would suggest in the price range you have listed is the Thermalright Ultima 90 http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=679602 £23.44 if you have a fan for it already if not then you will obviously need to spend a few £ more but it comes with a backplate and doesn't use push pins! A big advantage in my book.

    Is the ultima 90 better?

    Re: Heatsinks...

Competes at a comparable level to the TRUE, not quite as good, but I have not seen a review of it compared directly to the Xigmatek.

Both are great coolers, if you add in the cost of the bolt through kit for the Xigmatek they are about the same price as long as you don't need a fan for the Ultima 90.

I would probably get the Thermalright, but have no problems recommending the Xigmatek either.

    Re: Heatsinks...

I've got that Xigmatek and the E8400 ... sitting on my desk, unopened. Gonna sell my current PC and switch to the E8400, I got the Xigmatek because it was cheap but seemed really good, I doubt you will have issues with clearance.

    Re: Heatsinks...

You rarely get clearence issues, as the fins of the coolers start above the heatsinks, what you can get is fitting problems.
basically getting to the connection pins/screws/bracket because it's blocked by both cooler and sinks.

One other I'd sudgest if you can find it, the Scythe Mine, around £20, near enough slient and easy to swap out the fan (92mm-140mm) however it seems to be getting hard to find now

Although for a dual core you'll also be fine with a cheap cooler like the Akasa AK-965x3 which is only £10 although a 92mm fan is going to be louder than a 120mm.
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=608228

One thing to note no upper side panel can be used when useing any of the large tower coolers, they are too tall.
They'll fit but the space to add a fan, not that it'd be any use blowing onto the top of a tower cooler they don't work that way, that upper side pannel fan slot is designed to work with a cooler like the stock one that blows air down onto the cpu/motherboard.
