Apple may be out later than AMD's Athlon 64. (The Opteron is already available in UK shops (dabs, scan etc))

    http://www.thinksecret.com/news/g5shipping.html

The low-end and mid-range models, at 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz, respectively, are expected to become available the third week of August, beginning August 18, in line with Apple's promise to ship the new systems in August.
Things don't look quite as bright for the high-end, dual-2GHz Power Mac G5. According to the updated ETA from Ingram, the dual-GHz won't reach the channel until "late September."
Hopefully AMD will start advertising the Athlon 64 so that the general public find out about it...
