Out of these two GFX cards which one is the "better" so to speak?
BFG GeForce GTX 260 OC 896MB PCI Express 2.0
or
XFX GeForce GTX 260 XXX 896MB PCI Express 2.0

Check the prodct pages to find the speeds of the core and memory....You will know which is fastest then (if either is)
As for the companies themselves, both have a bit of an anti-following.
XFX for abnormally high failure rates (Maybe unjustified. They did sell a lot of a particular card that was build on faulty nvidia chips IIRC)
BFG for their European support (need to get support via the US unless something has changed recently)

I would choose the bfg (assuming that the speeds are around the same), based on bfgs reputation alone.
I did have a xfx gfx card on my last pc, and although the card was fine (for the most part) their cs was below par.
The XFX has the faster clocks, between those two, but the BFG has a longer warranty.
BFG, owned XFX and never again, terrible support.
BFG with the UK drop point in wales is better.
even though the support guys are thick and dont put you on hold while they call you names LOL
Sorry guys i made a mistake with my original post, it should have read:
BFG GeForce GTX 260 OC Maxcore 896MB PCI Express 2.0
or
XFX GeForce GTX 260 XXX 896MB PCI Express 2.0
In that case its harder to call the BFG has lower clocks but more stream processors and you could potential overclock to reach the same speeds. With that in mind I would go for the BFG.
Have you considered crossfired 4850s? Only really an option if you have an X38 or X48 motherboard as you require 2x 16x PCIe slots to get the most out of the set up.
Running on a P5Q Pro m8ty so i don't think thats an option
Well it is an option just not a realistic one you could have 8x crossfire but performance does take a hit.
Probably better looking at a single card solution, as you are
My choice remains with the BFG although I would potentially think about seeing if I could find a cheaper 192 core model for ~£180 and save myself £35. Where are you buying from? eBuyer appear cheaper than Scan at the moment for 260s but remember you need to add postage to ebuyer now.
I was looking on eBuyer and Scan for price comparisons
my vote goes for the BFG. not only because of more processors, so it should have more power esp if you can overclock it to the same speed as the XFX. But the customer service from BFG is great! I applied for the extended warranty and rebate offer after the 30 day deadline, yet they still accepted both without asking any questions
