New RIG

Hi guys,

Since my old rig ceased to exist this week i have around £500 to spend on a decent rig to play some games like CoD4/5 on.

This is the one i have come up with:



Just wondering if anyone can give us some advice on this system at all?

I already have a DVD Drive and another 200GB HDD but i need more space.

You may want to get a better graphics card if you want to have stunning graphical performance.

I would also change the PSU to a Corsair VX450 (~£45) and maybe if your willing to play with a bit of overclocking get the E5200 (although it is still 2.5GHz) as a CPU instead of the E7300 save yourself ~£30 there as well.

Add that £30 to the graphics budget and get a ATI 4830 if you can find one for £90 it will knock the socks of the 8600GT or if that is a bit much then the 9600GSO or 9600GT will be significantly better as well for £65 and £80.

The 4830 is just over £100 on Scan, the VX450 is highly recommended. Good motherboard, will overclock well to push for those extra MHz.
Case and monitor are up to you but I say it looks good to me.

It doesn't need to be stunning as i will use a config for the games to max out the FPS. I'm not all cracked up on overclocking so i just need something that will work well and fast.

You wouldn't need 200W for the above.. 450 is more than enough and no the more efficent the better not the highest quoted output. Also the amps are very important.

That cooler probably isn't all that special compared to the stock one tbh, try that first. I'd deffinatly get the E5200 there is no point in the E7200 now really unless you need the little bit extra CPU cache which in gaming you won't.

I'd get one of the 9600's mentioned by webby, at least. Sacrifice 2GB of RAM for it if you have to, but the CPU will save you the extra anyway. Might be worth going all the way for a 9800GT or HD4830 as above. THe 8600GT will do the job but it will already be struggling at 1680 x 1050 and will get worse very quickly.

Higher then better is absolutely the wrong attitude with PSUs.

"The higher quality, the better" is the key.

Also, an 8600GT with a 22" screen might not be a great match-up.

Better CPU cooler (but still not the best you could get by a long way), much better graphics, better PSU and case, bigger faster and quiet hard drive, different monitor 20" same resolution so sharper image and has a DVI port.

Replace the Sonata 3 with the Coolermaster 330 for £25 and the Corsair VX450 for £47 to save £8
