    Old Motherboard

Hi guys. Sorry if this isnt the right place to post this. Does anyone know where i can get ASUS A7V8X MX SE Socket A mother board from as i cant seem to find one anywhere. I know its old but i just want it to fit my amd processor in. Either that or a mother board thats similar and cheap that my amd 2.6ghz processor will work with. Its to fix my old pc so i can run games on it.

I cant afford a load of decent gear for gaming so trying to piece together enough to run that games i have.

    Many thanks

    Re: Old Motherboard

Rookie, ill get a list together and post it on here as i cant think of all the bits lol. Now i have an old mother board which is a socket 478 and ill now be getting a new processor from ebuyer to fit onto that. Ill need a good graphics card at some point but all the ones i want are pci-e which i dont think my MB has the slot. I am right in saying a pci-e card wont go into a normal pci slot?

On other question i do have is this...can i buy just any Processor to fit this mother board as long as it fits a socket 478 or are there other things to look for? I read somewhere that the front side bus needs to be matched...is this right. Damn this is confusing lol.

I think that's the board that's sat inside the big old Aopen case gathering dust in my closet. It even has all the bits attached to boot up, if I recall. I got as far as fiddling with it to try to build a media server and then lost interest. Anyone who wants it can have it - it's just that I get terrible pangs in my geek organs if I throw anything that still works.

    Re: Old Motherboard

the front side bus speed will effect what you can put in it as will the chipset.
Best bet is track down the motherboard make and model then look it up on the web.

Probably best off looking on ebay for a cpu, not many 478 cpu's around in shops.
Same goes for an AGP graphics card and memory as well. (probably older ddr, not ddr2 or ddr3)
And no you cannot put a pci-express card into a pci slot (or ddr2 into a ddr slot)

Also don't expect to play many new games on that, older games from 5 year back sure, some newer games will be ok as long as they are not graphics heavy or based on old engines (although not many of thoes about)

Lemme have a nose about in the depths of Da Cupboard O'Doom and identify exactly what I have. Where are you located?

    Boned,

i think thats a slightly different one but if u dont want it i could probably use it to pratice building another system with some older bits i have. Also helps me practice for my course im doing.

Well, I've got no real use for it. If you bung me a few quid for postage or send me an SAE I'll post it your way. Or if you're in central london anytime in the next little while I'll swap it for a beer.

    Re: Old Motherboard

I'll be selling off an Asus A7N8X Deluxe, an AMD 3200+ Barton Core, some Corsair XMS 3200PT twin-matched RAM and an AGP Radeon X1950 Pro pretty soon as well as some other bits and bobs. Let me know if you're interested. It'll probably work it's way onto eBay when I have a spare weekend otherwise.
