How high does a good clocking xp 1700 go? oh and whats the clock speed of a default 3200 xp?
And on a completely different note whats the highest overclock, pentium or athlon?

a gd clocking xp1700+ can do about 2.4-2/5ghz on air, 2.6ghz on water and 2.8ghz on prommie.

I have a DLT3C wk10 which does 2.5ghz on water and 2.8ghz on prommie, the 2.5 is high fsb low multi, 2.8 was 14 x 200.

Best my old one would do stable was 2.32 @ 1.9v.

Had the same 1700 as Korky and think it went to 2.3ish on air at just over 1.8v iirc.

Some people do seem ahve to good insane ones that go miles, mine does a mere 2.1ghz stable on 1.775v (up from 1.6v.) The stock of an xp3200 is 2.20ghz for a 400mhz one, and a 333mhz is 2.17ghz.

Both intel and AMD overclock a long way with the right cooling. People have got P4's to 4.3ghz or something, but im not sure what the futhest AMD overclock is....

AFAIK Furthest clock on AMD was a 2100XP to 2.9Ghz and highest P4 was a 3.2Ghz Northwood to 5008Mhz!

most 1700's go a lot further than people think. They just dont push them as far as others. keeping temp lower than 50c load imo anything upto 2.1v is safe. for this rule to work, temps have to be measured resonably accuratly (on-die temp diode, or back of socket probe bent up so it touches the cpu well, with some paste on it).
my 1700+ dUt3c only got 2.2ghz before. Then i added cooling for my nf7-s r2 MOSFETs so that i could use higher voltages (1.8 +) and ive foudn it stable upto 2.38ghz on air cooling, using ~2.06v. temps were 46c under load (slk800 + fan on full..).
Air cooling is imo as good as watercooling in most cases, as long as a good heatsink is used (copper + lots of fins, slk800 for example)

yo SilentDeath, its true that they can do 2.1v, but just cause my dlt3c does 2.5 @ 1.8v, it doesnt go more than 15mhz higher if i use 2.1v, most have a limit. But they can do 2.8, i think the highest was 2.9.

Yup, a few people with vapochills have cracked 3GHz with 2500 XP-M chips, and the newer steppings are getting very close to that on air alone

Silent Death - surely its not really worth the shortened life time of the CPU for 130mhz more? dont know how much it shortens by, suppose if you upgrade regularly...
